My husband has a rbpi. He was injured when an inflated test ball exploded at work sending a metal valve through his right hand. The force of the explosion wrenched his right arm backwards across shoulders. After 2 years (6-05) and 2 surgeries he is finally seeing movement in his right arm. No function yet, just muscles twitching. Chris-PA

I am Scott, I retired from civil engineering in April 2005. In June 2006 I was bitten by a spider and collapsed due to insect allergies. I laid unconsious and alone for two days. I suffered a fractured clavical torn rotator cuff and a TBPI on my left arm mostly from the elbow down to and including my entire hand. God that hurts a lot. To this day I havn't seen or heard a definative diagnosis explaining the whole enchilada. I just know it hurts and it doesn't work and as fate would have it I can't feel it or with it. Only pain. Why is that? I've only been given a few 'we can amputate to relieve some pain' prognosis' and lots of pills. Lots and lots of pills. I used to be left handed and can't quite get a grip (no pun intended???) around voluteering to have my arm wacked off. No matter what the outcome. You guys are now my angels. I don't know how I missed you all when I first signed on last year but I am sure glad I found you now.
God bless you all.
Ps I should add that one week prior to collapsing I had been hit by a car while on my mountain bike. I had three broken ribs on my soon to be LBPI. The docs at the ER I was transpoted to following the collapse couldn't understand when I explained I had brkn ribs prior. They thought I was delusional and it is indicated as such in my records. Pretty funny looking back.

How was West Nile virus diagnosed???
This is the first I've heard of this.
My God it's almost depressing seeing how many BPI's there are.

My name is Genevieve, 30 years old, and I live on the coast of Northern California. I was hit by 2 trucks this past April, a collision initiated by an intoxicated driver, and am now left my left arm paralyzed. I am still freaking out that this actually happened.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Hi everyone :)
Spring is here in NZ, lambs, daffodils etc so that means autumn is on its way for you lot soon....

There seem to be a lot of newbies here so I'm bumping up the roll call for anyone who wants to add themselves. I've been collating the numbers, locations and causes of the people listed on the roll call for a number of years now and it makes for interesting reading if you have a spare hour or 3. If you want to add yourself details of how you got injured and where you are in the world would be great.
