I have been watching this post for a few days, and I can't believe what a hot topic it is. When therapists mentioned tying my daughter's arm, I immediately felt uncomfortable about it, but I usually go along with something until I feel that my daughter really doesn't like it. Anyway, we finally decided that we would tie it until she didn't like it and then take it off, however short the time period. Nothing helps once you go past the point where they feel you are in some way trying to make things difficult for them (of course, my daughter is four - maybe later I will be able to explain to her the reason, and she will understand. But at that point I guess tying would not be necessary anyway). I kind of go with my heart on these issues. Just the other day the therapist wanted her to do a kind a crawl - except with her bum up in the air. Long and short of it - she HATED it. The therapist wanted to make her do it anyway - I politely but firmly said NO and we moved on to something else. I guess the "no pain, no gain" issue is true, but there's more at stake here - I want my daughter to trust me, and to know that I am always on her side no matter what. Some parents may push it harder than that, and that's fine, but as a parent, I know the limits with my own child - and I think I know them best! We all love our children and know what's best for them.

Kristie,

I think that it is necessary and kind that you make apology to Krista... You also seem to have this big religious thing going on that makes you quick to harm and critize people. I am a devout Catholic mother to a severely brachial plexus injured newborn that will take such a prayerfully long time to determine if restraint of my child so helpless at less than one is good.
