WOW!!! I just starting reading everyones notes on what Topomax has done to them and I am shocked. I suffered greatly from PPD after my first son but that was never my diagnosis. I was diagnosed with PTSD, General anxiety, Anxiety and Panic Disorder and Bipolar. My doctor started me at 100mg. of Topomax, for anger and losing weight was a huge plus, but by the time I quit cold turkey he had me taking 700mg a day, on top of Prozac 80mg, Ritalin 30mg, and Clonopin, with Xanax when needed. I had more energy from 6am to 5 pm but after that my mind and body would crash. I was still depressed, angry, and having tons of painc attacks, and when I mentioned these he informed me I was doing better than I had been. I too had numbness and nothing was ever said to me by my doctor about any side effects other than the 'positive' weight loss. I became a monster, my mood swings were up and down, and that I was told was b/c I was bipolar. I quit taking all meds by the time I confirmed I was pregnant, and what a difference. I just saw a counslor from college and he commented on how good I look and mentally sound (trust me I put on most of the weight I lost due to high risk pregnancy), until today I was willing to quit breastfeeding to start taking topomax again in hopes of ridding this weight, but after all the posts how could I knowing it's not me but the meds. Thank you for writing and confiming what my family has said since a few months after I began the meds. Good Luck!!!

I have been taking topomax for about 6 months and roughly a month ago my hands started killing me. Being that i am a computer animator i cannot have my hands in this state. The topomax helps so much with my head pain but my hands are now falling apart! What have you guys switched to for preventive medication? Good luck everyone.

I have been on topomax for well over a year now. Lost weight, depressed, numb you name it have had it. My dose had been increased to 250 a day. Last week I could not longer stand my head pounding and be a dope. Afraid i would forget where I am etc. I slowly in one week took myself off it. Proably not a good idea. But my head feels great. I am walking around like a new person. I have plenty of worries but I am not depressed. I am clear headed. I am 48 years old and had migranes all my life. I am tired of being given one drug after another. One will help for awhile and then stop. One makes you gain tons of weight another makes you lose tons of weight. All have side effects. The way I feel right now is The side affects of topomax are not worth what you get out of it. You will never get used to the dosage your body will level out on the dosage. Things will not get better. It my help you headaches for some months and lose weight. But I have given it a year and a half of my life for my system to adjust. That is not going to happen. Depression grows. They give prozac to rid you of that but have to keep increasing because depression keeps increasing. You sleep most of your life away. You have not energy to live. In this short week I feel alive again. I will treat my headaches with imitrex, zomig, but I am finished with experimenting with a new drug. I guess some of us are meant to live with these migrane as others are asked to live with cancer. The cribbling migrane is better than topomax.

I HAVE BEEN ON TOPOMAX FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW AND LOST TONS OF WEIGHT DUE TO THE FACT I CANNOT DRINK SODA. I TAKE IT FOR THE PREVENTION OF MIGRANES, AND I COULD DRINK 12 POPS A DAY EASY, BUT WHEN I TAKE THIS STUFF I CANNOT STAND THE TASTE OF A POP. I CAN'T SAY THAT I FIND THE DRUG ADDICTING BECAUSE I AM ON AND OFF OF IT. BUT I DO WORRY ABOUT HAVING TO BE ON IT THE REST OF MY LIFE BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT HELPS MY MIGRANES AND KEEPS ME FROM DRINKING SO MUCH POP. I CANNOT STAND MY HANDS TINGLING SO THIS BAD. THEY HAVE INCREASED MY DOSAGE FROM 100MG TO 200MG. THE ONLY THING I CAN DRINK IS WATER AND TEA. I HAVE TO FORCE FLUIDS DOWN. I ALSO FIND MY MEMORY ON THINGS THAT I DO EVERY DAY TO BE DULL AT TIMES.
