I have been on topomax for 3 years for root never ending damage in my lower back. Since I have been taking the medication I have lost weight, helped the awful pain in my lower back but ended up with Bells Palsy. I don't know if the medication had anything to do with it or not.

Yes! I have had both chest pain and heart palpitations. Both my neurologist and internist seemed to think that my heart palpitations and chest pain was unrelated to the Topomax. I just don't know. They haven't found anything else wrong with me. My interest has suggested that he thinks it is anxiety. Now, after reading about Topomax, I have learned that it can cause anxiety, too! I am beginning to think that I am not going crazy, that maybe it is the medication. I need to speak to my neurologist, but she is a talker, not a listener and the only one nearby that my insurance covers. Ugh! Where do i go from here! On a positive note, my migraines do seem to be improving, but I do not know if it is worth it. Sometimes I really think that my personality is so very different...and not for the better. Have you learned anything since posting your message?

I too am, depresssed, crying, forgetful. The words are inside my head but won't come out of my mouth. It's awful. Is Topomax supposed to be a mood stabalizer? I was told by my doc it was. I am on it for that reason and it is also useful for weight loss, but I'd rather be heavy than insane. Any one else feel this way?

hi,
I am doing the same thing currently for the same reasons - going off paxil for anxiety do to 'spaciness' and weight gain and going on topomax. I know going off SSRI's can cause a host of withdrawl nasties, but I don't like some of the things I am hearing with the topomax. I am not sure what I am currently experiencing as I go off the Paxil is related to the Topomax and what is related to coming off the Paxil. I feel tired and emotional, but I also feel really spaced out, kinda 'stoned' I suppose and I feel like I am having surging or rapid heart beats on and off. Any advice?

I am on Topomax my doctor for a meningioma ( brain tumor), I just found out something not too good about my liver enzymes count (3 times the amount it should be) I think you should all check on this.. I am very worried I just spoke to my doctor today. We should be concerned.

Hi, I have been on Paxil for a little over 2 years because I have OCD... I was up to 62.5 mg. daily, and I gained 67 lbs. Just over 1 month ago I went to my dr and told him that I couldn't handle the weight gain anymore, and what we decided to do was to drop my Paxil dosage to 50 mg. daily and 25 mg. daily dosage of Topomax. In this past month I have already lost 8 lbs. and the only side effect I would complain about is how I am much more thirsty. My best advice to you would to stay on lower dosages of both... I know I have only been doing this for a short time but I do feel wonderful. I hope everything works out for you... if you have any questions feel free to ask.
