KAREN!!!!

DON'T BE AFRAID TO TREAT THE PAIN--(I KNOW, SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE HOSPICE NURSE!)--BUT SERIOUSLY, IF IT HURTS--TAKE SOMETHING!! YOU'LL BE BETTER ABLE TO ABSERVE YOUR ARM AND HAND FOR MOVEMENT IF YOU AREN'T FIGHTING WITH PAIN!! DAVID NEEDED PAIN HELP FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS AFTER HIS EMG,GRADUALLY IT SUBSIDED--THEA'T W HEN WE NOTICED MOVEMENT!!! SOOOOO....KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED--NOW IF YOU CAN DO THAT WITH BOTH HANDS, THAT WOULD BE GREAT!! BUT ONE WILL DO FOR NOW!! TRY TO MOVE THAT ARM WRIST AND HAND IN THE WATER--EVEN TAKE YOUR OTHER HAND AND MOVE IT--TELL YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE DONING, TRY TO MOVE,A ND THEN MOVE THE AFFECTED ARM WITH YOUR OTHER ARM--REMEMBER MUSCLE MEMORY!!! HANG IN THERE KIDDO!!

Hi Suzie,

Thanks alot again. Isen't it wierd that the pain is bad with me too after the EMG. Maybe it is a coincidence. I'll keep trying with the muscle memory. It is tiring doing that.

What is your email address? I would like to email you. My personal email address is kggunns@hotmail.com. It isen't the one that is registered on this UBPN. That is my parents address.
Talk to you soon. Love, Karen

I'm glad thats over for you but I'm sorry they gave you that bad news. But like the others with their advice, go see that BPI specialist. They know so much more. It seemed like along time before my hand started to move. I can't remember extacly how long it took. I hate to say this but the only way to see whats really going on in there is to have surgery. I went through that and woke to hear it was not good and my nerve transplant failed. But there is so much Doctors can do for us these days and more and more is coming out every day. Try to stay postive, which seems impossible at this point but you need to to keep going. I'm going on 16 1/2 yrs with my injury and I've never stopped looking for help. I go for my MRI and to see a PT that works with BPI injuries on Thurs. I'll never give up, I have excepted it and I'm going to keep on trying to get stronger. Thinking of you-Kath

Karen-
I'm glad you've finally found a doc with some knowledge of this injury. I was just wondering, where was this doc's office at? Good luck!

Hi Susan,

Welcome back and hope you are recovering as well as can be expected. Dr. Midha is in Toronto at the Sunnybrook Hospital Womans College. Thanks to the UBPN, Henry on here was the one who informed me of this doc. He spoke very highly of him. I am very grateful to this website. I have learnt so much and have "met" a lot of wonderful people. I'll let you know how it goes. I also went for a job interview today for part time work at a Private school for girls aged 14 to 18 years of age. I got the job! I start training this weekend. It is for a residence worker, monitoring and keeping the girls in line. I have never done work like this before in my life. I am a legal secretary. It is very wierd, but since this injury my attitude and outlook on life has changed dramatically. Anywho, I thought I would share that.
How are you feeling Susan?
Love, Karen

Boo hoo. I ain't going for surgery. Went to my surgeon yesterday and he had a letter from the good Mr Birch saying he had seen my "wretched condition" before(I feel like a Victorian wench) and how he didn't think because its a central lesion (think we are going back to spinal again)there is no point in exploratory surgery. Anyhow, I guess I can give it another year and go for a tendon transfer to bicep if it is still not working. And hopefully right deltoid will strengthen up some more. Am kissing goodbye to my left deltoid until someone comes up with an injection whereby they can inject muscles and nerves into me. Surely it will only be a few years...

Have you considered getting another opinion on the exploratory? When they did mine there was a severed nerve that wasn'r expected because it didn't show up om mri. Plus there could be more than one issue - I had scar tissue removal and the nerve transfer. Each problem nerve caused denervation to different muscles.

Good luck
