I began pushing while in a birthing chair. Its like a donut cushion on a stand which would help me deliver in a squatting position. I delivered her head in five mins and it was sucked back in from the dystocia. The midwife had me walk across the room with the baby's head partly delivered and climb up into a raised birthing bed which was at that time angled like a dentist's chair. My back slid down the bed, my chin was to my chest, back curled, legs pushed back behind my ears by four people while the nurse midwife put so much fundal pressure on me that she had lifted herself off the ground! My research has led me to believe that all fours is the best method. I'll be adopting next time. Best of luck.

Can't help but wonder. It seems like so many of us have had midwives. It just seems like proportionately a lot more babies are delivered by doctors, yet it seems like there are a dispropotionately higher number of midwife deliveries here on this board. Makes me wonder about any training differences or if any one has looked into this? Does anyone think there may be a higher percentage rate of bpi among midwives when considering the % of babies they deliver in the US as compared to doctors? Also, is it true that midwives can no longer deliver alone in hospitals in California? I have heard they need to have a doctor present? I have no idea if this is accurate or why this would be the case?
