It is very interesting reading everyone's stories, some of you I "know" (virtually at least) and I'm happy to "meet" so many new people also.

My name is Bridget, I am the mom of Ian, who has a left obpi and who is eight. I think Ian has a great attitude about life in general (for the most part) but I do worry about the teen years and am just hoping that it won't be too rough. My brother was born with a birth defect to his ear, and I grew up watching how the world reacts to people who are "different" and watching my brother as he coped with surgeries and people's attitudes/questions. (Funny, I never thought to see how my mom handled it all.) Actually that life experience has enabled my family as a whole to adapt to Ian's disability and to offer support through surgeries, etc...we've been through it all before, it seems.

Ian loves to read and write stories, he excels in school, and keep your fingers crossed, this week is Honors Class testing for him. I'm sure he will do great. This week is also Field Day, which has brought the unexpected challenge of jumping rope...last year for Field Day he didn't seem to notice that he had more difficulties than the other kids in this area, but I guess the past year has heightened his competitive edge! He was very upset about his inability to jump rope as fast and as well as the other kids...anyway, he seems to have gotten over it. It is just one of those things that he can do in his own way, maybe a bit differently than others. I think he accepts that.

Ian also loves to swim and ride his bike, play baseball and do anything new and interesting. I think he has a great sense of humor, even about his arm, and if he weren't so young I think he would fit right in with the group who post regularly on this board! :)

Thanks all of you for being here, not only for me, but for my son when he does get a bit older and looks for other people facing similar challenges to connect with.

Bridget, I hope there will always be a message board for your son to come to and share his feelings with as he grows up...something most of us didn't get to do for almost AND more than half a century!
Chris, please don't hesitate to share your feelings with everyone...who can understand them more than this group of folks??

Pat, Judy, and everyone signed up for the boat ride....How about a celebrity marathon to raise funds? The I can get Brad to come and take a picture with me so I can have a REAL Star Magazine cover above my desk! And the boys may not come if there's a male stripper on the boat...any suggestions?

The boat gets bigger everyday!!! That's good. Male strippers are fine as long as we get equal time, right Chris? I like the idea of around the world with wine, tea and chcolate, my kind of girl.

Celebs always welcome to raise funds. Stephanie, we all would be the real stars on that magazine cover above your desk....Brad Who????

Judy
Thank GOD you have no sense of humor !! Where would we be without your stability and sense of calm...............YEA RIGHT!!!! And I LIKE the part about me being Queen......kinda fits don't you think hahaha I mean, if Kath gets to be Captain I should be allowed to be Queen. :)

And Pat as far as the toes teeth part????? Feet are shot as well, so that takes care of that. I do have strong teeth, but I will need them to do all the talking when Kath takes a breathe. hahahahaha

I also very much like the part about chocolate wine and tea and crumpets.........yummy !!

Now, as far as the rest of you male LURKERS????? You can NOT tell me in this whole universe there are only TWO OBPI MALES (or as Kath likes to call em...mails) hahaha I would really truly love to know that there are only 2 of you out there...............NOT !!

So sign in, speak up and jump on the boat!!
