Dear Guest,
I think that Kate has supplied a great reason as to why anyone can be skeptical of this particular surgery. You cannot possible have anymore that that seeing that this surgery is very much in the new stages. If you read her whole post, you will probably find a lot of your answers there. Look back and see if you can understand more. Good luck with this.

parents should not have to DEBATE whether a surgery is good/bad! i have been on my journey for over 2 years & i feel like i am in a third world country with the data i have found and the OPINIONS i have recieved. america should really wake up, there are serious RISKS that can happen under ANY surgery, they include DEATH! i am not willing to risk that w/out clear evidence that it will be needed & help FOREVER! i felt the same way why not? and our rehab md said surgery is a risk at any age. think of this what % of babies are born with bpi? now what percent of death or serious complications to surgery? i bet the %'s are close? even 1% can happen & it did for us.

This is a response to surgery in general, no specific type of surgery.
Yes, there is a risk. There is a risk with anything in life. We risk our life just by getting in our car every morning. We risk our life just by trusting that nobody poisoned our food before it made it to the store or in a restaurant. We risk our life walking across the street, flying in an airplane for vacation, getting on a train for a commute to work. The list goes on. We have to take chances and take risks. No matter what, even the things that seem safe are probably not. Walking your dog? People don't always pay attention to people walking and some drive too fast! Getting on a nice boat sounds calm and relaxing right? It can sink. A nice plane ride to the islands? It can crash down to the groud. A trip down the mountain on your skiis? Watch out for that tree. I mean, it is true, our children are at risk (so is anyone) when a surgery is done. We still have to remember that life goes on and we cannot live in fear. We have to live to make our lives happier and better. By making our babies arms better, we take that risk and that chance. It IS worth it.

Guest, thank you for your response. However, NO, I don't see a concrete answer that I was looking for. Just because something is new doesn't mean it is bad. If there is a reason that I should not choose this surgery for my daughter other than it being new, I would really like to know. If the only reason is because it is new that just isn't good enough for me. If there is a more concrete answer please let me know I may have missed it in the post. Please tell me exactly what you are talking about in the post instead of telling me to reread something I have already read. I mean no disrespect by this, I am just tired of not getting an answer. I respect your opinion I am just frustrated by not being able to get the information I need. If people are so intense about disagreeing with a surgery, it is either because they know something that they aren't saying, or they don't know enough about it. I would just like to know the real reason. Just because a surgery is new can't be a reason that someone wants to disprove it so bad. Please tell us the real reasons.

To the last Guest:
You just said everything that I wanted to say. I know that if my child had cancer and there was a new experimental drug that no one had ever tried or even a few had tried, I would be willing to try that drug in the effort to give my son a chance a of "SURVIVAL" When he had mod at 14 1/2 months it was experimental. NO one ever had it done that early. But now, look, others are having it even earlier and look at the outcomes. Gayle mom of Brandon ROBPI

Hey all,
Please - I am NOT trying to start anything here. I just think that the last posters might be missing the point. This injury is not a life or death situation, and yes there are all sorts of risks out there in the world like getting on a plane. Neither one has anything to do with surgery for an injured arm. Parents here are just forced to decide what risks associated with surgery are worth it. Taking that risk for some has been beneficial, and for some it might not have been. Some surgeries could possibly make things worse - and we all just do the best we can do to make that right, informed decision. To me, making this choice has nothing to do with saving a life from cancer or from walking your dog or taking a boat ride.
Christy.

I totally, whole heartedly agree with this; BUT... let's take calculated risks when it comes to surgery. Let's get some factual data under our belts. I feel like with this surgery, people are taking the word of the doctor who "created" it. I want more than just his word. I don't trust his word alone. I want facts; The positive facts as well as the negative ones... I have said before- you CANNOT make an INFORMED decision without ALL facts. People tend to lash out that those of us who ask questions.I have asked for pro's and con's before on this very surgical procedure, and was blasted fot it. It really disturbs me when parents say they have made (or are making) decisions for their child that will affect the REST of their lives,(not to mention their physical bodies), and they have no desire to learn what MIGHT possibly go wrong in 10 or 20 years. If there is someone who does know this information, please share it with the rest of us. I am not judging anyone, just stating my opinion, as I see things.

Re: Has anyone been told they DO NOT need Triangle Tilt?
"Given the history of capsulodesis and the evolution of the triangle tilt, however, I think it is reasonable to be skeptical about the longevity of the results and this latest version's ability to fix the underlying problems."
Kate, I agree. I stated in above post that I was skepitcal as well. You wouldn't be doing right by your child by not being skepitcal.
However, my son has great success with Dr. Nath so I have no reason to think he is doing something to harm my child. I don't go about decisions with blind faith either. If I was told my son needed the TT right now, I would have a bookful of questions that would need to be answered before I even considered.
The only difference between you and I is you have, and always had, an axe to grind with Dr. Nath. Remember you and I go back a long way, so I have an idea of where you are coming from. In my opinion, if Dr. Nath invented a cure for cancer you would probably discredit it.
But you are allowed your own opinion, and I respect that. I also have respect for you as a parent who does all she can to make sure her child gets the best care.
Rich,
(Off subject, but oh well!!)
GO SOX!! I'm pretty darn excited about the squad this year. Beckett has looked good and I hope he can avoid the injury bug. Papelbon looks like a stud!!!!

Re: Has anyone been told they DO NOT need Triangle Tilt?
I think the big problem around here is this. You are either a supporter of Dr. Nath or you aren't. There is no inbetween. While I am not a parent of a child that he has recommened triangle tilt for, my child is a patient of Dr. Nath. If he told me that the sky was yellow and would stay that way forver, I would put my total faith in that. He has never lied to us! It is amazing to me however, that questions about his surgeries raise the most amount of concern.
