Maureen,
My son was 22 when he had his accident. He had just became a journeyman electrician so doing electrical work was virtually impossible with one arm. One of the things I made him promise me when he was still in intensive care was that he would go back to school and get a different education. At that time I expected he would just go on and get an electrical engineering degree. He took a year to get well enough to go. The accident happened in May of 93 and by Jan. of 94 him and I were going to colleges and interviewing just like we did before my childrens senior years of high school. He started college in May of 94, just one class to see how it would go. We chose for him to remain at home and he finished his education and got a degree in autocad, which is computerized drafting basically. I think having someplace to go and something to do helped keep his mind off the pain. He has C5, C6, C7 and C8 avulsed and a bad stretch on T1 so he was dealing with a lot. By the way his Dr. is Dr. Kline and he will be seeing him in May also.

Pamela,
Did your son have surgery? Did he have any improvement from it?

Paul and everyone,
I feel like going on top of this building I'm in and letting everyone know, Gianni was in O/T today and 4 month post surgery, he lifted his arm. He can't seem to do it again, just yet. In O/T he said he did it on his own. My God, I think we are about to begin our miracle.

Wow that aint bad recovery. Gianni is going to get a major boost out of this and you will probably see him exercising his arm as much as he can just to try and strenthin it well thats what i was doing anyway. He has to work hard now knowing the surgery worked but it will also get very boring and depressing at times but in the end i bet it will be worth it. i can push my arm out to the side so that my hand is about 12-15 inches from my leg which is 10 month post surgery. Keep pushing

He showed me last night. He was lying in bed with his arm resting on a pillow. He just pulled his arm toward his chest. The feeling was the same as the day he took his first steps. Just being able to see him bend his elbow was unbelievable.

Kev,
That's wonderful that you can do that. I can't wait for Gianni to be able to move his arm that much. How often to you go to O/T.
