topamax is like other drugs causing side effects most unwanted my son is 2yrs old and has had difficulty with metabolic acidosis. please have the child checked for co2,hco3(bicarb), anion gap, potassium, and ca,phos, and alkaline phos ,look for hyperventilation a compensation the body uses for the acidosis, topamax works please use as little as neccessary you have to experiment with your child and they may have a seizure but, low doses can lower chances of side effects

For anyone that can answer this question..I have been on Topamax for a month and a week, I am not overweight at all, I am 5'2" and weigh about 110, I just wanted to know how long it took any of you to lose any weight, was it a quick thing? I haven't lost anything. I was thinking maybe the weight loss was more for people that had a little excess to lose.. Can anyone help me out. Does anyone else have major stomach pain and painful bowel movements? If so, when does it go away?
Thanks a bunch---Susanna

Elizabeth, Have you tried magnesium, my doctor told me 50 mg 3 times per day to start with, and B6(once per day). Both of these are over the counter, and are suppose to help migraines. Have you tried beta blocker medications? I have had terrible migraines since a head injury from a car accident in 1997. I am just tapering off topamax due to the side effects, I have been on it for several years. It really helped the migraines and seizures activity, I don't know how I will due without it. I am a registered nurse. Good Luck.

Guest, I am a registered nurse, who had a car accident and suffered a head injury and now can't work. I have been on topamax for a few years and just started to taper off due to side effects. I have been taking it because of migraines and siezures from the head injury. I also take magnesium 50mg 3 times per day, and B6 once per day. Both of these are over the counter. My docter approved them before I added them to my list of medications, and they seem to have helped the migraine situation. Have you tried beta blockers, these are prescription medications used for migraines. I also have lesions on my MRI, which my neurolgist said could be caused from the migraines. I don't know what I will do without the Topamax, but the side effect have gotten to bad. Good Luck.

Hi, I read about your concern of the tingling in your feet from the topamax. I am taking it for migraines. The only side effect I experienced was the tingling in my feet and hands. It was very severe but not as severe as the pain of the migraines I was getting. I was willing to deal with the tingling in my hands and feet not to deal with the migraines I was getting. I mentioned the tingling to my Doctor. She told me, to alleviate this, take 1 pill a day of vitamin C and 1 pill of vitamin B and drink tons and tons of water. Although I amy going to the bathroom all day it has definitely alleviated the tingling. You need to do this on an everyday basis. Ask your Doctor. It definitely worked for me. Good Luck!

I have read a bit recently that people who take topamax may not sweat enough in hot weather. Just wanted to alert everyone not to let yourself get overheated. It could be dangerous.
I know some of you say that you sweat a lot at night, but I have found that I hardly sweat at all now. I get very overheated easily. It is more common for kids, but I happen to have the side effect as an adult.
This message is especially important for parents of children on topamax!!! Kids are more susceptible. Please watch them and keep them cool.

I am on week 3 of Topamax. The first three days at 25 mg was horrible. Then my body adjusted. The second week at 50 was no problem. Last night I had to take 3 pills (25 mg each) after 2 hours of taking the the two pills together, I couldn't feel my tonge. I started to hyperventilate. I needed something sweet to coat my tonge. My husband tried everything to help me. A Mr. Freezie finally helped (or should I say 5 of them). I spent the entired day in bed today recuperating from the horrible night I had from doubling up. I see my doctor for my nerve block injections tomorrow. I think I am going to tell him that I want to go off of this medication. Last night really frightened me. And may I say that today I have gone through two 4 litre brita jugs.
Thanks for listening.
