Dear Lisa D & Vanda
Thank you for your replies. Jill is not "doctoring" for her LOBPI at this time. I honestly don't know how easy it would be to find someone around here that is familiar with taping. Been out of the OT PT network for several years. Back when I was trying to get help using the E stim in the 1980's.....it was hard to come by, and I focused on her forearm then. Later in 1996, I tried again, for her other places, and failed to find someone that knew what to do. Years & Years ago I did hear Dr. Pape speak....but never did get up to Canada. For now, I am collecting useful information and new ideas......for when Jill might be more receptive or feel the need. For right now she is focusing on day to day life, and college. For a 20 year old that is good too.
Lisa.....for your question. Jill is smaller and shorter in just about every area of her left shoulder, arm & hand. However her actual left torso length appears to be the opposite, and longer. Let me explain.
When she was probably around 6 or 7, the Chicago O.T. noticed how Jill was standing with her left BPI shoulder raised at a higher level than her "normal" right shoulder. The O.T. called in the P.T. for a look, and suggestions. It was decided that Jill's left torso had such WEAK muscles that it could not counter balance the pull of her stronger right torso muscles. Thus, her strong right torso muscles were pulling her over, and raising the level of her BPI left shoulder. After that I had to practice with Jill and make her aware, to try to focus and release the stronger right side to try & even up her shoulder height.
I was actually out with Jill last night and watched her walk toward me, specifically looking at her shoulders. She is still carrying her Left BPI shoulder higher than her right. I did not let her know I was looking, nor did I say anything.
