lizzyb, I appreciate your honesty. I've been reading the ubpn forum for four years and have read about doctors, surgeries, drugs for pain, etc. but this is the first time I've heard things like another boy hiding his hand, or your personal feelings after the accident or someone else that bites their nails (even on the hand with no feeling?) and that helps. He would think it was stupid if he knew I was talking to other people with his same kind of injury. I know he has to get through this himself and it could take a long time - it's just hard to watch him suffer knowing I can't do anything about it. Thank you everyone for your advice.

I don't mean to chime in but... the obpi children often bite the bpi hand,nails and arms and in my case I lifted the bpi arm/hand with my unaffected hand just to bite it. I had more infections from chewing on my arm and nails and fingers... it has to do with sensory issues...
I don't do it anymore I hope this passes once he realizes how easy it is to get infections on bpi side.
