Any nurses out there with BPI's ? I am an RN who sustained a bpi 8/14/99. I would love to go back to active nursing instead of case management. I guess I am looking for a little insipration.

Hi Greta
Try this link for inspiration-the guy featured avulsed 4 out of 5 nerves from his plexus and as a result has a flail arm. He was part way through his nursing training at the time, and he says in this piece that he is continuing with very few problems. It's like everything else, we can do it, we just do it differently.

Hope you manage to get your wish Greta :0)

I haven't been on the site in so long and it's so interesting and inspiring to see what people are doing!
I was a tv photojournalist before my accident (I shot and edited stories for a television station). I sustained an injury leaving me with no function of my right arm though I had surgery that has given me elbow flexion. I edit for the daily newscasts and have continued to win a few local emmys! The stress of deadlines seems to aggravate the pain but I am thankful for the distraction from the still incredible pain that lingers five years later. I had a dream to shoot again but that hasn't worked out. I agree that prolonged sitting aggravates the pain so I try to get up and take a walk when possible.

I was a hairstylist for ten years. I am now seeing a new career just because I was tired of it. However, I did have surgery which helped my arm out tremendously. I am now trying to get accepted in to our surgical technician program here. I wasn't sure because of my arm. However, the sky is the limit. If you dream it...do it! That's my motto. Sure it gets frustrating from time to time. That's why we are all here on these boards. To help each other out. I say follow your dreams.
Good Luck to you.

A very good reply Rich-- whoever you may be. I would like everyone with tbpi to understand that life does not end with this injury and it's associated complications. I have recently started going to college 2+years bpi and if one positive thing can be construed from my personal trajedy it would be that it has given me the incentive to pursue a higher education level, and I absolutely love it. We are stuck with what we have. That's that.
