Denise,
You haven't done anything wrong and it's not too late to get things in motion, so don't worry.
I'm glad Rich and I happened to be on here when you posted so that we could give you some ammo )
Good luck!
Don't give up!

How to get support from schools?
Re: How to get support from schools?
Rich,
They tested her visual- motor, upper limb speed & dexterity, and established that she is R hand domianate. If you can find the name of the other test I sure would appreciate it. It seems like all they focused on were her strenghts, I kept having to bring up the weakness over and over. I don't have the raw scores, but I'm going to real soon.

Wow such great info. Thank you so much for your discussions. I will have to ask more questions of some of you. J.R's IEP meeting took place Tuesday with the result I had expected. They want to dismiss him from the services. Luckily I did not sign saying I had to discuss it with my husband who could not attend. So I left the door open for him. BUT they also scheduled an IEP meeting for my older son the same day who has his own issues. They wanted to dismiss him from OT and Learning Impaired services we settled on keeping Learning Impaired services in consult type form for 20minutes a week. BUT I Should not have signed I knew my rights I did feel pressured every one seemed in agreement except me. After getting home I did not sleep well and I really feel I signed too hastily with many questions left out there What can I do now!

bumping this up to the top since their has been so much IEP discussion
Re: How to get support from schools?
I wanted to bring this back up the top for two reasons. My son's annual review is coming up and I benefitted from all the information I received last time I posted. Secondly, this is a hot subject and the information shared can benefit so many of us! Please share your latest IEP/Services experiences! Thanks in advance.

Re: How to get support from schools?
Tessie we have experienced the same problem but I have him in a private school that claims to acknowlege different forms of intelligence and learning styles etc. and though I still had to fight for him and make them live out their claims we have gained some concessions- he gets to supplement verbally any written tests as he is very smart verbally as well. The teachers use smart boards and if he can't write all the notes fast enough they will print them off the smart board for him so he has a set of notes neat enough and complete enough to study from. I also make him practice typing- Mavis Beacon typing tutour -at home all the time and when he gets fast enough we will send him with a lap top.I also home schooled only I did it for the early years up to grade four and my son is in grade 7 now. Homeschool has so many great things about it too. There are many days I think about letting him come back home to school but so far I am getting enough co-op from the school he is in to allow it to work for him.
