It's not that they miss scoliosis until adolescence, idiopathic scoliosis (ie, not caused by any known underlying factor, like Spina Bifida, for instance, or vertebrae malformation) most commonly doesn't start showing up until adolescence.

What was interesting about my Scott's scoliosis is that the Doc here [WA] who first saw it [Tacoma's Mary Bridge Children's Hospital], sent to Philadelphia for a copy of all the x-rays to determine if in fact it was there from birth and he discovered it was visible in all the x-rays all the way thru. :shock: yes, i was shocked for a major Children's Hospital , especially when he had open heart surgery repair on his 4th birthday. Sooo many specialists under 1 roof, including his Pediatrican , did not communicate with each other. What I realized after the fact is that I was the real "Captain" of his medical team, not the Pediatrician. I hope this helps some mother, that's my purpose in sharing this.
