This is such a blessing to hear. Trinity is scheduled for December 6th. She has a severe injuiry to ROBPI. We too will be flying to Houston. We have been waiting since July for the surgery. Can you tell me a little about a few things, 1) how long did the actual surgery take? 2)how long did you stay in Houston? 3) how is your little one recovering? I understand every case is different, I am just looking for a little insight to what to expect. Anything you can provide would be great.
Val,

I don't think anyone is judging you. They are just asking you about the difference between their own experience (several with the same doc). It is out of concern for your son that they mention it. They would hate to see the good of surgery gone because of such a different protocol that's all.

mlynn,
No one is saying you are stupid, but I think that everyone here wanted to make sure the information was correct. When my son had mod he was 6 weeks in all day and 6 weeks at night !!! And yes, give him a bath and hold his arm up, do not move it. Things may have changed. But these instructions kind of puzzled me too and my son is a patient of Dr. Nath and we too love him, but I would have definately questioned his thinking here and he would've explained why such a difference. That is just the kind of guy he is !!! GAYLE

OK I just can't keep my mouth shut on this one. Seriously??? The capital letters is an issue? Geez people lets try to focus on the post itself and not the "format" in which it was typed! This poor Mom is just excited for her child and instead of the congrats and we're happy for you response she deserves you pick on her for her typing etiquitte? COULD YOU BE ANY MORE PETTY??? Just to clarify, yes I know all caps means yelling!

Hello Raindrop~
I am sorry that you took offense to me mentioning that all caps is considered yelling. I thought the OP would be intrested in knowing that bit of internet/e-mail etiquette. And one other person chimed in that it was hard to read in all caps and it is. I wasn't intending to be petty. I believe I mentioned that I was glad the surgery went well. My inital question to the OP was just about how long it took or rather how fast it was... which I was surprised about... no petty intent there.
The biggest issues it seems to be and from what I can see the OP seems to have been hurt by all the questioning regarding the splinting procedure for this particular child. And as I see they are just trying to have her back that's all. I think all of us wish that someone had our back before we ever got to this place. No one is out to hurt the OP intentionally. They just want the best for her son and his long term out come. And they are curious about why the difference for this child. We can all learn from each other if we are willing to talk to each other and ask questions. But if we just allow ourselves to feel beat up on then we all lose.
Mlynn~
Please don't feel like crap. That certainly wasn't my intent. And don't stop posting. No one is intending to tell you that you are wrong or stupid or that your doc is wrong. I think what people would really like is to understand why your son is splinted less than typical. And the only one who can provide that answer is you. All you would have to do is ask your doctor. I am sure he is aware that the BPI Community is always striving to know more of how things work. I highly doubt that he will feel at all put down by our desire to understand more. In fact I would think that he would take pride in the fact that we are intrested in his work and in his reasoning for something. I understand that you might feel awkward asking him because you might feel it implies that you have a lack of trust or faith but really it doesn't mean that at all. I just means you desire to understand the process and reasons why and how it works. From my experiene with him I found he likes to share about those things.
So again please don't stop posting... we want to learn more from your great experience that you started to share about. Please consider asking your doc the whys about the splinting and share with us so we can learn too!
And thanks for switching to small letters... it is easier on the eyes... my intent as I told raindrop was not to make you feel bad or be petty it was just to share some information. When you have to read other people all the time it can be hard to know what they are feeling and since caps has a meaning on the World Wide Web I thought it would be prudent to share that little piece of info just in case you got into another group out there that might not appreciate the caps... that's all!
Many Blessings,
Kristie

I am glad that things are going well for you and your son. I was disappointed reading some of the other posts insinuating that you might not clearly understand what surgery was done for your child. In the times that I have lurked around this site, it appears that there are a lot of the same folks that seem to respond to each other or are quite selective in who they respond to. Quite frankly, it's this type of behavior (clic ish) that is a major turnoff to many and prevents organizations like this from being effective and creating a true voice for those that are dealing with this injury. It breeds 'likeness' or 'similar to me' syndrome (when someone posts something outside what's deemed normal, you get responses such as the ones that were posted in response to your post). I do not believe that this is intentional but it sure as heck doesn’t feel welcoming to folks that haven’t been a part of the organization for years.
kristie stated 'It is out of concern for your son that they mention it', do you think any poster here is more concerned than mlynn is concerned about her own child?
mlynn~I hope that you find the support and reassurance that you need either through this site or by connecting with others off-site. Please feel free to e-mail me should you need a listening ear.

I would just like to ask a question has anyone had a surgery that was not casted or splinted and if so what was it??? Frankie had the Primary Nerve Graft 13 yrs ago and was splinted to keep him from moving around. He had tendon and muscle transfers and was casted 6 weeks and the mod quad last year splinted 16 weeks. The only one he wasn't put in a splint for was his 1st which they later called exploratory and said there was nothing to be done. This was suppose to be a nerve graft. This is why I brought up the question as to why no splint I never meant to start trouble. I would also like to say I don't hate Dr Nath he is my sons doctor and a very good one. I also don't care how anyone types caps or not but most of all I would like to say that this message board is a cliche and does breed likeness unfortunately its because of the injury's either our children or ourselves have suffered. It is not a cliche I would have ever wanted to be a part of but fate can be cruel I am however so grateful that this board does exist I have learned so much that has helped my son in so many ways and I have a place to go to vent my fears and angers that other people (friends and family) just don't get cause its not there baby and there not living this nightmare, Please lets just support each other and get alone and if you just want to update everyone but don't want questions asked say that in your post and I will keep my questions to myself. Mlynn I am thrilled your sons mod quad was a success and glad he did not have to be spilnted I would not wish that he-- on any child I'm going through it now and its torture so please know I share your JOY and never meant to hurt you.
Hugs Mare
