Hello Georgeann,
Sorry I missed this when you posted it in October. College gets busy and I miss posts some times.

Anyway Iam the Amy that you read about on the web site Tina posted.

My hand surgery/tendon transfer was a miracle for me. Before surgery I had no use of my hand it was in a fist and I could not actively open it. Now I can open and close my fingers pretty easily. Still have trouble with individual use. That would take way to much time in therapy to correct now, I just do not have hte time for it in college. I might work on that over the summer, who knows.

From the recovery all I remember was having two casts. I am not sure how long I had each one but I would guess around 4 weeks eash. The first cast went up my arm to about my armpit and had my elbow at 90 degrees. The second cast only went to right before my elbow. After the casts were off, I dont think that it was a hard recovery. I dont remember doing any therapy other than ROM at home and that did not last very long. I was never in formal therapy after my surgeries because we could not afford it where I lived and where I had my surgeries done is 4.5 hours from my house so that would be too far to drive for therapy. I think I was just a regular kid and however I played must have been threapy for my hand.
I was lucky in a surgical sense that I have not lost any movement from my 4 surgeries. Although two of my surgeries did not really bring about any gains either. So far I have only had luck with improved function in my hand surgeries.

I hope that this is a clearer picture then my web site on my hand surgery. Oh the main reason I did not have surgery until I was almost 7 was technology. I had been seen since age 1 but the technology was not there to support surgery at the time.
