My son had to be reccesated (sp) at birth, but was not diagnosed with a brain injury. He is as smart as they come, but was diagnosed this past year with ADHD. He is five years old and went into k-5 on medication to control his disability. Some people may not agree with medicating a child that young, but until they have lived in my shoes, or his shoes for that matter, I refuse to argue with such ignorance. I do think that the lack of oxygen at birth has to do slightly with the fact that he was diagnosed ADHD. His pedatrician neither agrees nor disagrees with my theory. He really is a very smart child, but he just has trouble putting it all together because his mind is racing so fast with tons of different thoughts. His medication helps him untangle the mess---it truly is a life-saver for him and his father and I.
