Do OT's make house calls?

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Can I just ask....why are children immunised against chicken pox? Is it dangerous? I know it can be dangerous to pregnant women... They aren't done for it here (New Zealand) and they weren't in the UK (but i heard the Govt were thinking of it). I've had it twice, and i know others who have too, which would seem to indicate that immunisation wouldn't be that effective anyway...theres an outbreak here at the moment, i wasn't worried about it until i read that some kids are immunised! thanks in advance for any info :0)

I do! Where are you? Actually now might not be the best time - you see I'm a ped OT and I also have a 7wk. old w/ BPI. If I wasn't concerned about her getting chickenpox, I would've liked to expose my 4 yr.old! I haven't gotten the vaccine for her because the best reason the M.D. could give me was it might make me miss too much work if she caught it! That's no reason to give a child a vaccine when I've heard about so many probs associated w/ vaccines! But he now tells me if she doesn't get chickenpox by kindergarten, it will be required to start school. The problem is since everyone's been getting vaccinated I can't find anyone to expose her to! Anyway I'm sure you should be able to find someone in your area who does come to the house, but it is true that if she's not feeling well she may not do well w/ therapy. Just be sure the OT makes it fun and doesn't push too hard. I have lots of kids who love me coming to their house (even when mildly ill) and think it's just a big playtime - that's the art of therapy - making it seem fun while still accomplishing therapeutic goals!
