Hi Brian,
Great to see a new face around here. By the way I'm 23 as well.
I had surgery on my hand in august. Just my hand, not my shoulder. I highly recommend that you go about surgery, whichever on you choose. I don't regret it at all.
There were lot's of jobs I wanted to do, but sadly I can't because of restrictions my health has put on me.
Good luck with whatever route you choose.
Erica
p.s. Kath i got you beat I was 13lbs 9 ozs

Brian,
As far as the mod quad sling, it IS NOT the one where you have to wear it above your head. I think they call that one the statue of liberty. I also freaked out about that one too. Rachel has a picture on Francine Litz website. I will find it & give it to you. The one we wore is called a pillow sling. It is rather large. Their was a lady at the airport when I was coming home to Alabama & she asked was I carrying an animal in mine.
Their are airlines that will help with reduced airfare. I haven't tried it, but I am going to this next time in February. I fly Southwest. They basically need something from the doctor (on their letterhead) stating that when you will be having surgery. You then have to type a letter stating that you don't have any medical problems that will not allow you to fly. I will find all that info for you too.
I didn't have to fly back to Texas for my mod quad. I kept in constant contact with Dr Nath & Brenda. You will have to go to physical therapy. Dr Nath will sent the information to your therapist on what you need to do. After 3-4 months I did sent Dr Nath a video to show him my progress. He is such a wonderful doctor.
The surgery lasted around 2 hours. He said once he got into the surgery with me it was a lot tighter than he expected. I stayed 2 nights in the hospital.
Any other questions, please let me know.
Deanna

Oh yea, when you look for the sling on the first site scroll down to where it says more info about surgeries, test & more. Then click on "Rachelcasa" adult mod quad & it will show you the sling.

Hey,
I have just been informed that my insurance company will NOT cover this surgery. I have finally decided to do it and they won't cover Dr. Nath. Is there anything else that I can do? Any advise would be great. Thanks.

Dr Nath doesn't participate with insurance companies anyway. Have you spoke w/Brenda about this? Brenda is Dr Nath's nurse. Is she the one that contacted the insurance company or you?

I talked to Brenda and she said that they won't pay for his services. So I called my insurance company and they will have nothing to do with it. I am looking into other doctors that are in my "plan". You know for an injury that is as prohibiting as ours you would think that insurance companies would care. I guess not.

Who is Dr. Shenaq? I do have him in my plan I think. Anyone know anything about him?

Brian, Dr. Shenaq is the Dr. that will be doing my surgery on Thursday. I met him in Charlotte back in the summer, he seems very caring and knowledgable. I don't know what type of insurance that you have, I have bc/bs, I got a call from Dr. Shenaq's office that my surgery had been approved. Hope this helps a little.
