I too am wondering about acromioplasty (did I remember that right?) vs. capsulodesis. Francine, I bet you'll find these answers...but is acromioplasty (we need a short name...)done at the same time as caps? Or in a separate surgery? Is it done instead of caps? If caps is done and is so far successful, would the acromioplasty still need to be done?
Sounds like a fantastic picnic...sorry I missed it.

Re: PA Picnic After Effects & NEW NEWS!
So the way I understood it is that if a child has a 3D CT scan and it shows this overgrown acromion - at the time of mod quad then they will lop the end of the bone off (acromioplasty) when they do the mod quad. Done at this time this should alleviate the dislocation problem so no caps is necessary.
If the child is already past that stage and is sublux'd or dislocated - THEN they will do it at the same time they do the capsulodesis. First they have to repair the capsule and tighten it up...then they will also lop off the bone so that it won't dislocate again.
Wait until you see your child's 3D scan. It's so clear - you will be shell shocked to see your child's structure so clearly! >
And like I said - I am waiting for Dr. Nath's text in case I didn't understand it either...which is all possible...I got this in my 7 minute picnic visit just like everyone else...it's hard to assimilate new information in such a short time.

So I wonder should we get a 3D CT scan? I'd like one, but don't know if we need one. Caps was 10 months ago, and is still holding, but I'd really like to see how things look inside....should I contact Dr. Nath?

I think sometimes the MRI may not be clear because of the facility doing it. When we had Matthew's done it was clear as day. Dr. Kozin only works with Temple for the mri's because he has gone over the positioning and procedure. I had asked Dr. Kozin about the ct scan when he said to get an mri and he said in his opinion the mri's show much more.
Maybe it comes down to preference of reading the results by the doctor also.

I had the mri and ct scan done at CHOP (#1 rated pediatric hospital) and it was read by CHOP and 2 additional U.S. hospitals and 1 international hospital. MRI showed atrophied left girdle and CT scan showed posterior dislocation. I always send the scans to multiple radiologists.
It seems that they send younger kids for mri's because there's no radiation whereas with CT scan you get blasted with radiation.

however the MRI's show soft tissue...the CT scan are more for structural issues...
