We have stayed at the Camden McDonald house two times and as far as I know you can have a reservation far in advance. Dr. Kozin had reserved rooms there in the recent past and Linda Filipone is the one who will reserve your room. She is one of Dr. Kozin's nurses. With the McDonald house in Philly you put your name on a list and/or call and check in that morning but there is no guarantee that you will get a room. All based on space. The Camden & Philly house are both about the same distance to Shriner's and Camden house is MUCH lesser and you can have a guaranteed room (unless that has recently changed). Call Linda Filipone or call the house in Camden directly and see if they are still reserving rooms for Dr. Kozin. I am sure they are. Good luck!

I don't think that changed (Camben house info) I think I was given the wrong information from the house in Philly. Sorry about that.

Ooops sorry...didn't mean to say MUCH "lesser". I meant to say the Camden house is MUCH "nicer" than the Philly house. Must have had a long day....

I am glad to hear that your son Matthew did well with his surgery. My daughter Molly had surgery last August. She also required a tendon transfer and lengthening of the pectoral muscle. The time with her cast on seemed to last forever. She was fine but it was difficult to dress her and take her out of the house on outtings. She had her cast removed a month or so later and was required to where a brace. The brace was easier to deal with because it was removable for dressing and baths. Molly's scars are practically invisable. She is doing wonderfully now. We still go to therapy. We found out two MRI's ago that her ball and socket has not formed correctly. It is a wait and see.. I can't stand that! Molly is stilling holding her arm out to the side from the cast and brace. Dr. Kozin seemed suprised that she had not brought it down yet. We go back to Shriner's in Dec.

PS Isn't Dr. Kozin wonderful! The staff at Shriner's is the best too!

Mollysmom,

Do you happen to know if Molly had the anterior capsule release done?

Best wishes to you!

Mollysmom,
I was wondering the same thing. Did you daughter have the capsule release or Kozin's release/transfer. I was under the impression after speaking to him that once he started doing the anterior capsule release he no longer did anything with the pectoral muscle.

I do agree that Dr. Kozin and the staff are wonderful. Matthew loved flirting with everyone.

The shoulder anatomy is not my forte and I'm so confused so please pardon my questions. I'm also trying to figure out the different techniques used for dislocations. I thought that the tendons inserted into the bone? Do they? If they do, then isn't this what the capsule is? So if they are releasing the anterior capsule aren't they releasing the pectoral tendon and whatever else is there that inserts into the bone? If not, then what exactly is the capsule and what are they releasing? And if they are transfering anything, what are they transferring and from where to where. Thank you for explaining this.

Sorry I have not written. I am so busy. Molly did not have a capsule release. She had a shoulder reduction, tenden transfer and lengthening of the pectoral muscle. I spoke with Dr. Kozin about your questions. He is considering doing a capsule release. He was going to a conference this week in Chicago about brachial plexis injuries.
