Thank you sooooo much for sharing. I have a few questions and hope it is okay to ask.
Francine, you mentioned "it is proven that the injury is caused by traction". I certainly believe it is, but am wondering where all the proof is and if there are current/recent published journal articles and research on it, because all I keep reading and hearing about are these bogus inutero ones. Where is the proof?
Allison, I am wondering if you know where we might be able to find further info. regarding the 30 lbs. to cause an injury & 100 for avulsions. Do you know if that is written anywhere and if some specific person actually researched it? The big bummer seems to be that these things are often not published in peer reviewed journals so that we are unable to use them in court.
Any info. would greatly be appreciated. Thanks so much for sharing with those of us not fortunate enough to go. Hope to hear from others!

Rachelcasa.... less need... not all kids have the contractures or the need for osteos... mod quad helps take care of many of the issues early on so that these are less necessary

i learned from chatting briefly with dr. belzberg on my own, that much of the treatments for the pain that accompanies avulsions are virtually useless (i.e. neurontin, stellate ganglion nerve blocks, elavil, percocet, oxycontin)... wish he was my physiatrist, because i have tried them all and dealt with some pretty killer and UNECCESSARY side-effects for no benefit. seems to me, the only effect of telling my dr. that the drugs werent working is that he prescribed double the dose. it was also funny to hear belzberg say that "good pot" seems to be more beneficial
on the brighter side, he also said that i would be a good candidate for drez lesion surgery.. i know he made it sound pretty nasty in his lecture, he really downplayed the possible negative consequences when talking to me alone.
either way, it was good to finally hear that i am not some sort of genetic marvel who cannot be affected by neurontin, despite what other docs have said
OH YEAH!!! and i had an absolute BLAST!!!!!!! thanks to everyone involved in putting this together, and everyone who showed up, just being there in numbers was great moral support!... im convinced ill see at least a few of you before 2005!

Hi...just a quick reply to your post Eric...I hope you get to read this..I just wanted to say how gutted I was not to be able to attend the camp after all; I did mail your mum and tell her the reasons why...I was really looking forward to meeting you and some of the others.
It's very interesting what Dr Belzburg told you..many of the pain Drs over here seem to agree that cannabis can be effective for this type of pain and ALL the drs I have met (and there has been many!!)are fully supportive of the cannabis trials over here. It is highly likely that the spray will be legalised for medicinal use within the next twelve months. Hopefully, other countries will follow...also, if you would like to know more about the DREZ op, there are several people in the TBPI Group over here and in the US who have had this done and I can put you in touch with them so you can get the REAL picture...glad you had a good experience at the camp...I'm still so sorry I couldn't be there...BUT there is always 2005!! :0)

One thing I learned at Camp that I had never thought about before is pain from the injury. I learned that often OBPI children experience pain during growth spurts when growing tissues pull on their neuromas. Parents I talked to have experienced this when their children reach early adolescence. It was good to be aware of this possibility and learn about treatment options which we did in the pain management seminar.
