Hey Jed
Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations with SS. I am also in the apeal process with SS and this what the lawyer told me. He said that the loss of function in my arm combined with cronic pain should get me disability. He also told me that what they look for to deny a claim is stopping therapy and/or stopping any meds. According to him, this says that I am healed and ready to return to work. He said that one of the favorite jobs that SS likes to consider as work is a security guard for access to a building. Doesn't matter if there is any oppertunity in your area or not, it is just a job that a BPI could do. Doesn't sound fair but that is the game as explained to me. What is a shoe in is the loss of both arms, the loss of one arm and one leg or the loss of both arms. I would suggest that you get some legal advice and see if you can save your current claim as the process can take close to two years. Sorry to give you bad news but that is the way it has been explained to me. Drop me an e mail if there is any thing more i could help you with and i will do the best i can.

Ps All the states are a little different so keep the faith, you deserve it.

Dear Dave,
I have not checked the boards for a while, and just tonight saw your message. Your lawyer was right on! We have been through the entire process, waiting longer than two years, only to be denied again. We applied 3 times, denied; then waited over two years for an administrative law judge hearing. His negatives were precisely in the areas you described; failure to continue medical treatment (no medical insurance), and failure to take pain medication (he dislikes the side effects). The jobs suggested were outgoing telephone operator (telemarketer), and you guessed it, security monitor. The appeal was also denied. I hope you have better luck!
