How about not just sensitive to smell? Sensitive to EVERYTHING! I believe Kath and I have spoken of this before- it's the "Princess and the Pea" thing- our family has learned to roll our eyeballs and just let Emily be Emily - but she certainly has a different sensory threshold than everyone else in our family!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Kath, I stir it if I make it....that way the sugar bowl stays in the kitchen where I can prevent little fists getting into it....:0)

My dh and I are the opposite - HE'S the one very sensitive to smell (unless it's cig smoke, then I'm gagging). He keeps me on my toes because I have to make sure there are NO smells in the house - had to get rid of a dog when nobody else thought he smelled!

"sensitive to EVERYTHING" - OT's can work on "sensory integration" (the way the brain processes different sensations) and help kids desensitize and tolerate those things better.

my dd gags when we try to get her to play in shaving cream to use her arm. I'm not sure if it's the feel of it or the smell (she's 14mo. and can't tell me!)
