Our prayers are with all of you at this very difficult time. The extra effort towards helping Maia's classmates and friends understand the surgery and cast will surely help all of the children deal with the change and especially allow them to empathize. I would think that not many kids that age have ever gotten the opportunity to actually take a look at what another child their age might have to go through. Maia will come back to school as a brave hero! It seems that our injured children often feel for what others go through because they themselves know what it is like to be different. I really think that by allowing Maia's class to be part of her surgery and recovery you are helping all of the kids to learn so much about compassion for others.
