We did decide to go ahead and have it done. I've been very pleased so far with our decision, although he just had the surgery on Monday and are still in the splint for 5 more weeks. I don't know what I would do, though, if Caleb had 90% recovery. I think I would base it on my son's desire. If there are no risks to further damage, and Caleb did want to have a straighter arm, etc., then I would probably go for it. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. Caleb will gain the ability to put his hand to his mouth, top of his head. He will be able to put his arm all the way down to his side and be able to externally rotate. They also think that if his arm is in a more normal position then his fingers will start to work. (He has Full BPI, not just Erb's) All those gains for out weigh the little bit he won't be able to do in my opinion. Hugs, Kari
