I hate it when I forget the car keys are in my Robpi hand... LOL...
I was so happy to find the other adult/obpi on the message board... I thought I was the only one who forgot I had something in my hand... When I was a child it would annoy my sibling that I was looking for a toy that was in my hand. At least now I understand why.
Now can anyone find my remote control? If I leave the room and its in my hand... and I put it down...well it is remote hunt...LOL

Re: Preschool Visit
Kathleen: it is interesting that you say that you forget what is in your obpi hand...Juliana does this all the time!!! It is very annoying sometimes, sorry to say. As she is getting frustrated that she can't find it, and I keep saying:"it is in your hand...it is in your hand." And she keeps looking at her RIGHT hand, as if the left isn't there!! I hate to call them "righty" and "lefty", but then I will tell her to look in her LEFT hand and she says "oh".
Francine, as for observing in pre-school, I try to look thru the window. Juliana's behavior changes when I am in the room. She becomes quieter, as if I should do the talking for her...So I like to observe when she doesn't see me. I think it is hilarious that the stuffed animal holds the paper down! Sorry to laugh! I read your post to my niece and she was falling off her chair.
I would mention to the teachers that they should gently discourage this. They probably don't even realize that it could be a problem. For most pre-school teachers, getting thru a day with out anyone crying is the biggest job! So, if Maia is happy and doing everything with the class, then Stuffed Bunny is welcome to join in. In Juliana's class, however, stuffed animals brought in from home are only welcome for circle-time (first thing), and then they go into the cubbies. There are a ton of animals to play with during free play, but if a project is being worked on, a stuffed animal would be put aside for the artsy part of the day.
Interestingly, what I have noticed about Juliana, is that she doesn't include her arm unless she has to. She will always switch hands if they put something in it. She tries to do the art projects one handed. Since everything is so far away from her (that elbow issue again), she is disinclined to use her arm. However, she does hold her cottage cheese container.
I agree that a viewing is a good idea. It is also fun!!

It is amazing that all of the children do the same thing and most people don't mention it. I think it is because it is not a big deal... But when we get older it is!... Until a few of the adult/obpi began to post a few years ago I thought something was wrong with me that I would loose things and then find them in my hand... Boy what a relief to find out it was bpi related... LOL... not that our brains were missing..LOL... My sister mentioned it to me a few years ago... in a complaining way... telling me what a pain I was about loosing things...
Now watch when you walk with the children -- If you are on the bpi side they will push you off the sidewalk... fussy about car seats... chairs...
I startled easy... it was only recently that I realized that the reason I did was because I was not aware of my body boundary on the right side. I also notice that I did not notice or precieve when someone was next to me on the right side.
When I go out to dinner... I always want a seat where no one can walk up behind me... I thought I was just a fuss pot... but I can't feel their presence so I make sure I can only get served from my left side... and my husband is on the right to take the pokes with my elbow.
Now you are not allowed to get annoyed when she looses her toys in her hand... I think most adult/obpi will tell you we forget we have another arm most of the time... except to stuff junk in it... think my remote gets lost a lot... took the phone into the car the other day..cuz I picked it up put it in the bpi hand to put back and carried it around till I got into the car... duh! so annoying at times..LOL.. now that I am getting older ... I try to blame it on age... but now that everyone is use to me doing it... they won't let me...LOL...

Re: Preschool Visit
Claudia - I noticed that too - she won't use it unless she absolutely has to.
Re: Preschool Visit
Reading the part about forgetting that something is in the injured hand makes me remember when Jameson was little we always gave him 2 cookies at a time, one for each hand and he'd often start to cry for more cookies when he still had one in his right hand! It was cute and sad at the same time.
Jameson doesn't have the habit of holding things in the crook of his injured arm....Sometimes I wish he did because then he would at least be using it more that way!!! He definately doesn't naturally just use his arm...He has to make a conscious decision to use it.

Re: Preschool Visit
Peyton is always holding something in his left hand (affected arm). Usually a hot wheel or some type of car, ALWAYS carrying something in that hand.
