Can I throw in another option for you? We have been in contact with Dr. Waters and from what I've experienced would highly recommend him. But also wanted to throw in the option of Standford Medical Center. Our doctor there is Dr. Vincent Hentz. He has been AWESOME! And I fully trust him. He is conservative in his treatment, but I think very sensitive to the child's individual needs. I'd highly recommend him. His information is on the medical resource page. Caleb will be having surgery at Standford on the 16th of Dec.

We thought about Boston and found that they did not do as many surgeries as Texas. We looked into Shriners and found that they do orthapedics and that basically means they do muscle transfers after the arm has shriveled into a prune. Why wait that long??? We chose Texas based on experience. Four years later we are happy we did.

WE chose TCH and even moved to Texas for a year to get specialized BPI care for out son. Would I move to Houston again for any other reason NO!!! Would I chose TCH yes...they are awesome !!!!

We chose Shriner's in Philadelphia with Dr. Scott Kozin after seeing more local orthopedic doctors and not feeling as though Amber's course of treatment was all it could be. I heard Dr. Kozin speak at a seminar at Shriner's and knew immediately that I needed to transfer Amber's care over to him.

We have been seeing Dr. Kozin for almost 1 year now (Amber is just over age 2 now). We are nothing but pleased with the care he and his staff has given our daughter. She had an MRI of her shoulder (ROBPI) and this showed it was subluxing. Dr. Kozin recommended the ACR for her and when I said I did not expect this recommendation and I needed to discuss this further with my husband (he had stayed at home in NY State with our other child while I traveled to Philadelphia), Dr. Kozin not only understood, but recommended that we get a second or even third opinion before making a final decision. We did decide to go forward with the ACR this past December, so now she is about 9 weeks post-op and just using the splint at night and naptime. We have seen great improvement in Amber's arm.

I think it's not only important to hear how things were successful when a surgeon does surgery, but I feel it's important to find someone to care for your child who will make you feel like they are treating your child like their own. I truly feel that way with Scott. He was very kind with Amber and us, considerate of our feelings and fears, answered many questions in person, on the phone, and through emails, re-answered the same questions over and over again without insult when I asked yet one more time, got down on the floor with Amber, gave us his home phone and cell phone the day of surgery so if we had questions post-op we could call him even in the middle of the night since surgery was outpatient, and just has a warm, inviting demeanor. All this AND he's extremely knowledgable with BPI. I don't feel like he is aggressive in his treatments, but I wouldn't describe him as conservative either. He's a fine mesh in the middle, which is what my husband and I were looking for.

You need to get multiple opinions at times. You need to feel 100% confident in the doctor's skills. You need to be able to ask any and all questions as many times as necessary. You need to be comfortable. These are important when choosing a doctor. This is why we chose Dr. Scott Kozin and continue to drive 5 hours one way just to see him.
