I'd love to hear what solution you come up with too. I have a forum for challenged athletes, and haven't been able to solve the spamming problem yet.

Thanks,

Heddi

Well we have required any new registration to be approved before being able to post, eliminating BOTS the ability to register any new aliases. Then we also required that the first two posts of any new registration also need to be approved, thus any BOTS that have previously registered on the old forums but have not yet posted will be caught. We can then ban by username, email, etc. So far so good now for ~2 weeks.

Hi Rich. I don't know what messages you are refering to so I'm guessing you got them all?
I'm still working my way around the new board and have yet to find myself at ease with it.
Because of the on-going problem with my good arm, my typing(poking) time is being limited.
Because I feel a need for UBPN.org, its fellowship, its knowledge and its strengths
and I don't think I'm alone here, I have been spending what little time I have here, learning my way around.
I think it's a great Message Board? I'm not active anywhere else so it has it's drawbacks for me
1. I have nothing to compare it to and
b. what I thought I used to know I don't anymore. Nothing is the same.
A couple questions;
Carolyn refered to 'bookmarking'. Where is it and how to use it?
I started a post (composition) the other night and selected save. Where does it/did it go?
Used to be you could check and see who was online or logged in to ubpn.org and their country's flag
would be represented as well. Does that still work?
I selected 'see who's logged on' a minute ago and it read that I am the only one? Can that be so?
I also read somewhere else that we have tens of thousands of members? Are you kidding me?
Are there that many of us lucky enough to have found this oasis in the pain?
I was directed earlier to a ubpn cafe. I forgot where I was. Where is it? It wasn't Amazon...at least I don't think.
But what do I know? Seriously folks I am lost here(can you tell). I used to keep tabs with a select number of users who,
unless they are posting now or recently I don't know where to find them.
Speaking of personal am I correct in assuming we all need to update our own profiles?
Nothing transfered?
Hey if I'm so out of tune I shouldn't even be on stage please let me know ok?
Piece(s) out
Scott
Oh ya, what are all the icons above for and how can you use them?
what are the quote, code, list, etc. for?
and c'mon I thought myself and all Europe spelled color with a u?
It's funny just yesterday I was talking to Jacob about spelling in the 'Old World'
style and I used colour as well as a couple ll words that I can't think of right now simply
because I am burning out like yesterdays birthday candles.
I've been working on this for nearly three hours.
'scuse me if y'all don't hear from me for a few more days.
So long and thanks.
Ps Richard are you from Boston proper(proppa)?
My Mom is from Malden, Dad - Medford and I was born in Waltham raised
in Newburyport grew up in Texas. I've been here since the Army left me here in the 70's.
Again so long and "Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."

Scott, you are totally not the only one thats lost! I thought I was good with technology and now we have this board...I think when I get to know it that it will be great! But in the mean time, I am lost and its taking me a lot longer to do what used to take minutes. Maybe I will have time to learn the boards over my Christmas break from school...I hope!
STick it out and it will get better as we all learn about the different features.
Good luck!

Carolyn refered to 'bookmarking'. Where is it and how to use it?--Bookmarking is at the bottom of the page, if you bookmark a particular topic, you can easily get back to it by going into User control panel, and choose "manage bookmarks". It just lets you keep topics of interest filed for easy retrival.

I started a post (composition) the other night and selected save. Where does it/did it go?--You can also get back to a saved draft by going into User Control Panel and choosing "manage drafts"-it lets you edit or delete and then publish or save again.

Used to be you could check and see who was online or logged in to ubpn.org and their country's flag-On the bottom of each forum, it will list who is online in that particular forum. On the main forum list, it will list everyone who is on regardless of which forum they are reading. The flag isn't available right not, but if they list their location, it will say in their post-I can find out if the flag is possible.

I selected 'see who's logged on' a minute ago and it read that I am the only one? Can that be so? Definitely yes, unfortunately not many people find UBPN-although we are trying!

I also read somewhere else that we have tens of thousands of members? Are you kidding me? We have thousands of registered people. Many will visit and never come back, many register and choose not participate. We also get our share of robotic registrations, although is proving very difficult with the new software (YAY!). We send out over 4000 outreach to our community, and eblast well over 5000.

Are there that many of us lucky enough to have found this oasis in the pain?--I am not sure I can answer that ???

I was directed earlier to a ubpn cafe. I forgot where I was. Where is it? It wasn't Amazon...at least I don't think. The Cafe press store can be found under the tab on our site called "support UBPN" then thru the drop down tab Awareness store, which will drop down a menu item for the cafe press store

I used to keep tabs with a select number of users who,
unless they are posting now or recently I don't know where to find them. You can find anyone using the Search forum to look at posts, you can also search for a user name and add them as a friend, private messaging is easy to use to, so you can chat with someone if they are online with you

Speaking of personal am I correct in assuming we all need to update our own profiles?
Nothing transferred? Yes and No. You are responsible for updating your profile, but yes everything should have transferred otherwise. By clicking in the User Control Panel, you can change anything in your profile.

Oh ya, what are all the icons above for and how can you use them? The icons above are for adding an icon to the subject if you are posting to a thread.--just to add some personal flavor to it
what are the quote, code, list, etc. for? Quote lets you reply to a specific post in a thread-so if you are reading and want to respond to the third post in a thread containing 10 posts, you would hit Quote on the post and it will copy the post and insert it into your response, and then you can respond.

Ps Richard are you from Boston proper(proppa)? I am 16 miles north of Boston, but was born in Albuquerque, NM, and lived in NY(Schenectady area) until ~11 years old. So my accent is not as bad as people born here. Currently in Reading, MA. I am familiar with all towns you mentioned, even lived in Malden for a couple years

Always feel free to ask questions. I may not have the answer, but will try my best to help ... :geek:

Awesome Rich. You totally addressed each concern for me. :? I think :?:
Is there a web page tutorial some where? :geek: I still can't post an icon from the top legend. :| I can from the right just not the top. :P
Thank you.

and yet you did post an icon, it is the fire one next to the title of the post. So you don't actually place it, it places it for you, you can only choose the icon for the top, unlike the sides, which you can choose and place within the text box

you're welcome!

rich

I am not aware of a tutorial page....I can ask though and let you know
