What is a fasha (fascia)? Isn't that in the foot? Would you mind explaining this to me and telling me how it helped? I'm curious about anything that might help my daughter... Thanks

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I have used every form of therapy at this stage of my life.

I found myofascial release to be excellent for me. I also had ACT ( active release therapy) that can be painful for some but it was not for me. I love the stretch it gave and how much straighter my arm was afterwards. I also had it on the unaffected side because my arm is always held to a short position to accommodate the length of my robpi arm.

I also had white laser therapy to loosen up my tight unaffected arm. It seems as if we are always looking for relief from tight muscles.

Do you cook raw chicken? Do you know that whitish - thin - transparent film that's underneath the skin? This is fascia. It is connective tissue. It is everywhere in your body from wide areas, to surrounding each organs, to surrounding muscle groups and then individual fibers, to surrounding cells.

When one does myofascial release (MFR)- you palpate this fascia layer and you wait for it to "melt" to your body heat and it stretches.

An easy example of how tight fascia affects you inside is for you to stand up. Take your right hand and reach over to your left shoulder and take a fist full of fabric at the top of your shoulder and bunch it up. Now look down. Where does the tension of the bunched up fabric go? It goes directly to your right hip. That's fascia!

It connects the whole body...

in the "complimentary health" mindset it is said that the fascia layer is the layer where the physical world meets the etherial world. The meridians (lines of energy) that acupuncturists work with when they do acupuncture are in the fascia layer of the body...

peace to the fascia :)

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: To make an incredibly LONG story short...
When I was born, my mother's doctor was out of town. A doctor that would not perform c-sections was forced upon us. Being 10 lbs, my right shoulder got stuck under my mom's pubic bone. The doctor pulled me out by my head, which ripped/streched all the nerves in my neck and arm (So, OBPI).
I've had two surgeries at 9 months old, and 3 years old.
My mother suffered as well. She needed both brain surgery and a shunt--She still sufferes today.
My parents lost the court case due to a terrible jurey.

That's about it!
Hope I can find somebody my age to talk to :)

Tiffany,
I haven't been on for a few days, and I just checked all the boards and saw you asked what fasha/fascia is. I'm not quite sure how you spell it sorry. Well anyways all the people that have replied to your question have definitely explained it better than I could have! So I would try it for your daughter, see if it works. Like somebody mentioned it may be a little painful. But after it's over I think it makes your arm feel soooo much better!
