Good pointers from everyone...
In my case, my arm works but not my fingers. When buttoning my pants, I put my left thumb through my front belt loop and pull my pants together to button. I then pull the front of my pants straight to zip. Not much different from the way I did it before my injury.

Buying one size larger is the way to go. I can button with one hand but not if my jeans are tight. Sometimes putting a hip against a wall/door helps to keep one side in place.
Quick comment about "normal". It took me longer then it should to realize that "normal" is what you make it. I can no longer do things the way other people do them but for me that is normal. I do everything in life "normally" even if that isn't the way others do it. Realizing that broke down a lot of barriers to moving on with my life.
oh.. and for those that don't know me I have no use of my left arm/hand.
