Well if we know that our children are predisposed to scoliosis maybe we should automatically include scoliosis prevention in their therapy - like Christy said...strengthen the trunk and stomach muscles?
what do you all think?

My daughter is only 19 months old but I have asked our new PT and the Dr. of Physical Medicine and Rehab. to keep an eye on her spine after what I have learned coming on this board. Both PT and Dr. have said that my daughter's spine is slightly curved but she has only been walking for about 3 months. The PT is giving us ideas on how to strengthen her trunk and both are going to keep an eye on it. I am so glad families can share experiences and their individual situations so "new" parents (I still refer to my daughter as a baby!!!) know what to watch for.

I still put him on a ball belly down and roll him around and put him in front of a mirror so that he has to bring himself up a little to look at himself. Sometimes I use toys instead of the mirror. Works great when he is in the mood. Any other ideas that I can use?

My daughter Tess was just 2 yrs. old when she was dianosed with a 15 degree scoliosis curve. She is now 8 and has improved. Way back then the bpi specialists didn't link the injury and scoliosis but they do now. We have her checked annually.

our OT spotted it, we had it checked with an Ortho and started strength training on the trunk/abdomen. Last review had it pretty much corrected but the dr said we would have to keep a check on it for a long time to come.
