Mod Quad & Triangle Tilt

Thanks. I suppose I am just concerned that her elbow contracture is more serious. She had an x-ray sometime ago that said that the top bone of her arm is a little bowed so the two bones are not meeting together just right. I was told not worry about it but I can't help it especially after hearing about others having to deal with the elbow dislocating and the pain that I hear can come with age. We did do splinting for it sometime ago.. It didn't work. I don't know if that is the same as serial casting... I will look into it. Thanks again

BTW - I have an appointment 5/6 at Shriver in Philly to see Dr. Kozin. Thanks again for the info.

My advice is this....get another opinion!!!! And, ask other doctors what they think about surgeries that have been recommended to you. I think most doctors do some form of mod quad - they just call it muscle tendon transfers. But as far as the triangle tilt goes...no one else does it. We have gotten 2 well respected doctor's opinions after hearing that my daughter needed a triangle tilt - and we are not going to have that surgery. It was called ludicrous by one specialist we saw. Also, for our daughter, Dr nath made his recommendation before he even saw any xrays, ct scans or mri's - he said her shoulder was dislocated. Well, after seeing another specialist who was well informed because he did all of the needed tests ...guess what...her shoulder is fine - not dislocated and not in danger of it. SO....sorry for the long post, but definitely get more that 1 opinion.

Thanks for your post. I am suppose to meet with Dr. Kozin in Philly for another opinion. My concerns seem to be the same as yours. I am concerned that Dr. Nath was able to make his decision after 4 minutes of looking at her. He saw no x-rays and told me her shoulder was dislocated also. That concerned me. He may be right as I had another othopedic (not a BPI specialist) tell me that her shoulder needed surgery. But then I also had one orthopedic tell me her shoulder was fine for now. So Dr. Kozin will be our fourth opinion. I just want to make the best decision for my daughter. The guilt I carry about this injury is overwhelming to begin with. I am always second guessing my past decisions and likely will always drive myself crazy with future decisions. Now that she is a little older I try to involve her in the decision making process but she is only 8. Anyhow, sorry to go on. Thanks again for your response.
