Hi Traci...

..just a few comments about Phil's posting to you; I just wanted to add that when I lost the use of my right (dominant) arm, I too thought I would never be able to play a sport again...years ago, tennis was my favourite; I played singles in a team representing my school and won several important matches. Since leaving school tho the only sport I ever really had time for was darts, and maybe pool now and again.

After the accident, I thought that I was pretty much done for where playing anything that involved the use of the hands was concerned, but one night, my friends took me out to take my mind off things, and someone suggested a game of pool.

Well, we had a long discussion first about the problems supporting or 'bridging' the cue; one friend decided he would let me use his hand as a bridge, anyway, to cut a long story short, we all decided that they would take turns being a 'bridge' and they would also play one handed (dominant hand behind the back..)we even got teams together!

That night,I had the best laugh and evening that I had had since the accident which was a few weeks previously, and I will never forget it.

It was such a small thing, but it was a real turning point for me...my friends were great, even the others in the pub were intrigued and got into the spirit of the thing; it proved to me two things; that you don't ever need to struggle with stuff like this on your own, and no matter how serious your injury, you can ALWAYS find a sport or pastime with others that will lift your spirits.

I have to admit, that since then, I have never really played pool again, but I know I CAN, and thats what counts for me...I do have the odd game of darts ocassionally tho...! ;o)

The pool games? Well, I didn't win a dang thing, BUT I did win back my self confidence...which is FAR more important. Hang in there Traci; your sons road to recovery will be a shorter one than you think....he is doing so well; you must be sooo proud of him..!

All the best to you and your family...
