Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Joanie
UBPN has provided two boards for Adult/obpi. This one is open to the public and a place for other adult obpi to find us. The new message board will be closed to public and open to only adult/obpi. The need for privacy has been a topic often mentioned by adults. That is the way Kate's Semg Board works for those of us using the machine.

Those wishing to be included were asked to notify me at KathM@ubpn.org and you will be added to this board.

Once Rich adds you to the list, you will see the board at the bottom of the Message Board List and can participate.

Does that help?

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Joanie,
Kate's board is the one she set up for those of us using the Myotrac. It's not part of UBPN.

I just mentioned that, b/c she has the same set up that we now have as of yesterday. One private/closed board and the others are open/public ones. That's all.

KATH,

GIRLFRIEND.........YOU ARE GREAT.

Sign me up--- show me how--- slap me around, I'M IN for a private board, and you've known that forever !

I have had to watch myself so many times in the past so as not to offend a newbie or a "mommie" as I call them that I stopped coming to "our" board. I REALLY don't mind answering peoples questions and offering suggestions TO A POINT, but as Joanie mentioned I/we are not GOD. I do not and can not know what someone else's life will turn out like. I learned that the very sad way with Hazel.

It has been 2x hard for me being one of the only (I think) Bi-Laterals on the board. Mommies want hope and answers and miracles. All I have is my life's adventures, which are my own and may not be "good" for someone else. I answered a direct question put to me through personal email and saw my answer torn apart here on this board. As if I had NO clue what I was talking about. Again, we are not God and I can only tell you all what has worked for me personally.

Let me know how I get to this new board friend. Loveya, T.

Kath and Marieke,

Thanks for your answers. I found the new board this morning and have already posted there. Before I got there, I didn't know what I would post there. As soon as I had the opportunity to post to just the adult OBPI's, I knew what I wanted to say first.

Tina,
Don't forget to email Kath at KathM@ubpn.org! That's the only way you get access to our GREAT Private Board.
It took me awhile to get that Tina...LOL

BTW, Kath, what about teens? Would a teen be allowed on the Private Board? & how could that work? OBPI teen girls have personal questions sometimes do they have to wait until Camp to get anwers?

Carolyn,

I see your point about the young teen girls. But, does that not defeat the purpose of our OWN Private Adult Board?????

I think it would depend on the age of the teen.. like 17+ are more like adults, no?

There is a place just for teens up to age 19 starting today. The Adult board is just for adults! Once you lose the word teen in your age you are considered an adult.

See you all there!
