It is important to make sure the sign is posted the arm banded during any hospital stay.

The last surgery I had --- first I had to explain to the doctor why no bp/sticks etc on bpi side...then it was the admitting nurse then the anathesioligist... (sp) you know who I mean... then the nurse in charge... none had any experience with bpi that was fine as long as they listen.... they had a note over the bed ...red label on the chart.... and band on my right obpi arm....

Before that I was in a step down unit... for cardiac... they were told 100 times no sticks on right side...when I was sleeping someone came in to take my blood woke me up looking on the right arm and telling me to turn my hand palm up....duh... I then threatened to check my self out if another blood test was taken... so I played lets make a deal with the doctor... I stayed and they took less blood out of me... and we were all happy then... guess you would call the obpi persistent...

Remember after years of taking blood from one side I now have tons of scar tissue on the unaffected side... and it is harder to get blood out of me and find a vein... them must use ped needles on me.... ugh I hate blood tests...

The band on the arm seemed to end it.... and work the best.

Wow this is really good information. I had no idea. I was never told this. I just had Hannah's blood drawen yesterday. And they took it from her left which is the obpi and of course she didn't even bat an eye. I will have to carry one of those card.
