The Team from Texas isn't just for surgery. They are specialist in this injury and know all aspects of it. It wouldn't hurt to have your son evaluated by them especially since it is free. I have to tell you that they are amazing at what they know about Brachial Plexus Injuries, in my opinion. They may be able to give you advice on what to do, what type of therapy or who to see for the problems your son is having. The Doctor that we see here in Cincinnati is also very knowledgeable. His name is Dr. Kevin Yakuboff (513) 475-7471. Best of luck to you and your little one.

How about Chicago?

Post by AK1999 »

Children's Memorial Hospital has a Monthly BP clinic. Dr. Grant Pediatric Neurosurgery, Dr. Grayhack Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Gaebler from the Chicago Rehabilitation Institute. Might be worth the 2 1/2 hour drive for a 2nd opinion.

I suggest you call TCH and speak to Lisa Davis if you're wondering whether a hands on evaluation would benefit your son. Her number is: 832-822-3290. She's the nurse coordinator of the Brachial Plexus Clinic at Texas Children's Hospital. She will be at the Ohio picnic with Dr. Shenaq. You might ask her if they've seen a child with Tony's concerns and whether they might be nerve related.

Don't feel apologetic about taking time from someone else's evaluation. Your son deserves an eval by an bpi expert as much as any child who has an injury to the brachial plexus. The beauty of these picnics is the friendships formed and strength gained from support of other parents "in the same boat." The children also benefit because they discover that there are other children just like them.
