That's good to hear, Tyson. The incision will heal pretty fast and that pain should be gone soon.

I avulsed my C5 to T1 back on 21 July 2005. Back on 17 November 2005 I had a nerve done to right arm. As of right now the movement and strength of my hand has improved significantly. And the movement and strength of my shoulder has improved, also. However, I still have now bicept contraction nor arm supination. These two important movements are looking bleak for. As soon as you can, for me a month after my surgery, begin cogmans and range of motion. At the very least this will help with stiff neck and back muscles. Good luck, Fred

Hi Tyson,

The timeframe to expect some movement after surgery is dependent on the length of growth needed before the nerve can "innervate" or contact the muscle. Since nerves grow around 1" per month, this can take awhile. Ask your surgeon the distance required for your surgery and you'll have a ballpark idea of what to expect. Also, remember the first movement will be tiny, more like a twitch. For John's hand movement, it wasn't noticeable unless he had his hand on a paper towel & we saw the paper towel crinkle a little bit. Movement gets stronger after more time & physical therapy.

Take care,

Ellen

Thank you again your information does help alot. I do though have a question about your son John. How soon after his surgery did he start to use the stim? And At this time has John been able to put back any muscle on his affected arm?
