HI Michelle,
Just wanted to drop in here to say congrats.
This is sure wonderful news.
I love the name you picked out.
Let us know what date you picked.
I had both the boys c-section and
it was really nice knowing in advance
when Aaron was going to be born.
Keep us updated on how you are doing.
Hugs,
Karen

At the hospital I work at, I have no control over the patient's position when they are having a cesarean (I am a labor and delivery nurse), but I am in the O.R. to take care of the baby at delivery. When the baby is born and everything is well, I wrap the baby up and immediately place the baby on the mom's chest and unstrap the velcro strap that is holding the arm closest to me so she can touch and hold her baby as best she can while lying down. Yes, our hospital does use velcro to loosely strap the mom's arms to boards that are at not quite a 90 degree angle so the arms don't fall off of the boards. This is the same practice at the old hospital I used to work at as well. It is for convenience of the anesthesiologist.
Congratulations on your upcoming birth. I've never had the experience of a patient sufferring a BPI from a c/s thank goodness. I would feel terrible for them. Food for thought though. Good luck.

Jo,
Hi. My doctor thinks it happened because of the way i was turning my neck during the surgery while they were stitching me up. I was straining my neck to the left to look over my shoulder to watch them clean up my daughter. Being in that postion for an extended period of time with my arms at a 90 degree angle is what seems to have caused it. My ob/gyn said "all mothers do that" so they were baffled that this happened. I was told that I could possibly have a smaller passage way for the nerves in my brachial plexus so the strain may have effected me different then all the other moms who have done the same thing. Since my injury I've had two very close friends who have had c-sections and they have both been fine. They didn't turn their necks to look at the baby but their arms were at a 90 degree angle. You'll have plenty of time to look at your baby after surgery so don't worry about it during! And since you already have any injury, you should request that your arms be at your side during surgery. It's not the normal way they position patients, but it can be done. That is the way we are doing it this time around. I hope that helps!
Good luck!
Michelle
