Thanks so much for all of the goos advice. I've decided to go to the picnic, but sure wish I could quit dreading it. I stink at volleyball and just can't keep the ball in that erbs arm long enough to hit it. they also do a lot of company "cheers--with both arms waving over their heads. oh well, I will adopt my smile and if the nasty one REALLY gets on my last nerve, I'll dare her to go through the day with one arm bent and tied in the Erb's position.

Sure wish I could get over this irrational fear of being made fun of in a group of people. I've been out of high school for 35 years --and I just can't seem to make myself do group activities very often--and now with the arthiris in my hands , I seem to fumble everything, drop everything etc.--
Thanks for all the support and I'll think of all of you cheering me on while I'm doing the 3 legged race.

I too was a hater of gym glass. I especially did not like the Presidential fitness award. I don't think I ever made it past 1/2 of a pull up. I say go to the picnic and have a great time. If someone asks you why aren't you playing I would explain to them why you are not and be an advocate for all of us who want to spread the word about our injury. You may be suprised about those who have never heard of such an injury. Have a good time and don't dread a thing!!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Pat, I am glad that you decided to go. I hope you have a great time and a very happy birthday! I will be waiting to hear about your three legged race, I bet it will be fun.
Don't worry about volleyball, just have fun and try your best if you choose to play. It does not have to be a serious game, play for fun if you want to play. (I can't hold the ball at all in my bpi hand so I toss it up with my left then hit it with my left, that has worked great so far. And If I know the game will be serious I too choose not to play, but if it is just for fun who cares if you screw up!)

Have a great time and do let us know how it was.
Hugs,

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.
