My first child has an OBPI. My second child was a scheduled c-section for that reason, and was two pounds lighter that the first! For that reason, I decided to play it by ear with the third child. He had to be taken by c-section three weeks before his due date because he was getting so large!! I guess you just never know :) On a more serious note, if you have only had one child, and the BPI was because of the size of your baby, you cannot safely guess what size baby you WOULD have been able to safely deliver. I would definitely opt for c-section, but the choice is obviously a personal decision.

My first born was my BPI son. He was 9lb 9 oz and 22inches at 38 weeks. When I became pregant with my daughter, about two years later I went to a different OB. Told him about what I went through, 3rd degree tear myself, shock, blood loss, stayed in hospital for 7 days (vaginal delivery). He told me that he can deliver large babies and has the lowest c section in the county. Well, my BP shot up so high. I immediate got up and left. Went to a different OB the next day. He was much much more understanding. He said it would be totally up to me. I decided to have a c section. My OB wanted a planned c section - it is less risky and I actually started having contractions so the surgery was moved 2 hours earlier. I was awake for the C section. It actually was so much easier. I only spent 3 days in the hospital. My daughter was apar score of 9! and completely healthy. My son was apgar score of 1, and in ICU for 5 days. As long as you have some extra help around the house after the c section and some pain medicine the recovery is much easier. The key is to stand early after the C section. The next morning, they had me trying to stand. The very first time it did hurt but the second time I made sure I had pain medicine. By the 3rd morning I was able to walk (still had to take pain medicine). I went home on the 3rd day. I do not think I will ever go through a vaginal delivery again. It is your choice but if you want a c section make sure you stay firm with the doctor and if they say no, swithc docs.

One more thing, my daughter was born at 39 weeks via c section and was 9lb 3 oz, 19 inches.
