I had a tbpi on dec 1st and I am now seeing a doctor at Loma Linda for surgery. I have read Ellen's post about her son and how they fixed all his avulsed nerves. He has shown lots of progress. Some of you also said that only elbow flexsion was restored and that was all that could be done. Why is it that the Mayo clinic was able to repair all avulsed nerves and other doctors only repaired one or two nerves to get limited movement? I am just confused and concerned because I dont want my doctor to just give me limited motion when it is possible to repair all. Any info would be great. thanks

Hi Oscar, I hope I clarified things about John's surgical results on the thread you posted yourself.

One other thought about the preferred delay of ~3 months in the US before doing surgery, that I forgot to mention earlier. The diagnostic tests unfortunately can't give a definitive indication of the extent of the injury. So quite often the doctors have to evaluate what they think the extent of damage is & what to do - but caution the patient that they won't really know everything until they actually go in.

Hi Ellen irecently had a TBPI on the 7th Nov 05 i had eporatory surgery one week later than had my op to reimplant the nerves on the 6th Dec 05, im in lots of pain but confused with the different treatments ive heard people talk of nerve grafting i never had that also wanted to know if your son would was told whether he would get hand movement back.

Your problem can be fixed. No gimmic look up Dr. Nath Brachial plexus. I believe you will be surprised after this. I was there with a broken neck c5, c6 pulled out of the spine and damaged c7, t1. Dont wait too long time is in hand!!!!!
