Peter,
Just wanted to drop in here on the tbpi forum to wish you all the best tomorrow with your surgery. You are in good hands.

We are leaving for our second trip in six tomorrow (Sunday). We asked for wheel chair assistance when I made our flight reservations. It was great...Chris was wheeled through security, boarded first on the plane, etc. All hotels give patients the "Clinic rate", but they are comparable to rates everywhere, as far as I can tell. There are only a few hotels near St. Mary's Hospital and all are within walking distance, so I am staying at the Marriott this time in lieu of taking a shuttle to and from the hospital. It is right down the sidewalk from the Hospital...I had checked the hotels out while we were at St. Mary's for some tests last trip. The first time, we stayed right across the street from the Mayo at the Kayler Inn and Suites. All hotels are very good at accomodating any disability...shower chairs, etc. Chris is really hot natured since his accident, and we asked for a fan and were given one also. The shuttle from the ariport is $11.50 cash. The shuttle from hotels to the Mayo Clinic and the hospital are free and come by every 15-20 minutes. We did not rent a car because everything is so close by and in the tunnels at Mayo Campus, there are several shops and restaurants. I plan to take a cab to a grocery store this trip since I will be there much longer since Chris is having his surgery. I want to stock my hotel frig with eat and run foods!
I hope this helps.
Angie

thanks all. surgery went well. i might be discharged today. then comes the 4 month wait if anything worked. i don't have the diagrams infront of me, but the did some rewiring of my existing nerves into the ones that didn't work. the nursing team is wonderful and treated my mom so well. she slept in my room the first night after my surgery. I wish all hospitals worked as efficent as the Mayo/St. Mary's.

If the "guest" post directly above is Peter, thank you for the update. I agree the Mayo & St Mary's "complex" works very efficiently & a lot of people have commented on that.
Let us know how you progress...
Take care,
Ellen

Yup, the guest was me. My room was right next door to the family room(with internet). I still have this oversized sling. One more week to get it off.
Oh, one thing to ad for all the families that go there. I figured the shuttles run on weekends. They don't since the clinic is closed. The public busses stop runnoing from St. Mary's back to the Mayo area around 6pm on Saturday.... No busses run on Sunday but there are cabs.
