Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Thanks for all the good wishes
John is happy I caught up to him.
As of today we are the same age 66.
Don't think I am writing my age every time I sign in it makes me feel old... and normally I don't feel old... LOL

I cannot celebrate my birthday without thinking of my mother.
On my birthday we always talked about my birth and delivery and how lucky we were to survive.
She always felt it was a miracle that she did not loose me
She died when I was only 28.
Thanks to her open and honest conversations, I always knew how I was injured and the circumstances of my birth.
I always think about her and pray for her on my birthday.
I was blessed with a mother who was dedicated and devoted to gaining as much function as possible for me.
I am especially thankful because she allowed me to be a normal child.
She told me I could do whatever my heart desired.
She always enabled me and never disabled me.
My mother was such a strong, quiet, gentle and loving person.
I never realized how strong she was.
I never realized how my birth injury affected her until I met so many bpi Moms.
Thanks bpi Moms for sharing so much with me because it gave me a greater understanding for my own mother.

She will always be my hero!

Hey Kath!
First off, your reply brought tears to my eyes! I understand the close bond that you and your Mom had - the one who understood and pushed you to become the strong person that you are today. And, your are exactly right - your b-day is a day that you both shared, and I am so sorry that she isn't here to celebrate with you, talk with you - but wouldn't she be so proud of you!!! All of the things that she worked so hard on to make sure that you were strong in life - which you are, and you made that happen!! She'd be so proud of how you are now helping others with this injury. She is part of you each and every day because of all that she taught you. Your strength thru her has carried over to your family, and all of those extremely cute grandkids (and of course us here too that need you).

I wish you a very happy 66th year, lots of laughter and fun - and thank you for all that you do for all of us!
Happy Birthday to you!! You best eat some cake for me because I'm craving it (hopefully you are having chocolate) and all that we have here is Halloween candy!
With love,
Christy

You were the one who told me to try the cartwheel! lol i didn't actually do one yet but i'm closer even though i still don't really trust myself and fall everytime (which i why i now practice on the trampoline!) Thanks for all the help you gave to ME and all the other people on this board. I hardly ever see a post you haven't responded to and you email my mom and many others a lot. Hi Kath,

I hope you had a very happy bithday.

Sorry I'm late. Yesterday I saw the boards too early for this thread, and I didn't get on the boards today until now.

I am looking forward to that tape!

I had ice cream chocolate and a great dinner.
Tomorrow we are having a brunch in the morning.
November is a big birthday month.
My daughter, daughter in law and my grandson all are November birthdays...
We gain lots of weight celebrating.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
