Sandi,
I have a friend from Metairie who is now in Lafayette, LA. She said it's very difficult getting a phone line to work, even from there and to call further away is easier than calling close by. She can't reach her brother who is somewhere in Louisiana. It's a hit or miss getting a phone line out and I cannot call in. I get a recording, "Due to the hurricane, ..."

Hang in there!

This is just awful.....my son who is 17 is still waiting to hear from a friend who moved from Illinois to Mississippi in July. She called him on Sunday/maybe it was Saturday and he cannot get a hold of her. I keep telling him it is just because the phones are down. I hope so. These refugees must be out of their minds by now. I do not know how well I would handle it. THIS IS AWFUL !

Hollandale, MS

Post by admin »

I have a Box Project family that we sponsor in Hollandale, MS. I can't come in contact with the mother and have been trying to find information about this city and what they have experienced from Katrina. I believe they were out of power for a while, but did not get flooded at all. Does anyone have any info on this town?
I have been praying for them as well as everyone else who was hit by this tragedy.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Kath,
No, not yet. I didn't try to call them in a couple of days, but tomorrow I will try again. I am sure they are fine b/c they were not in a flooded area, but I still hope they are safe and sound.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Hi! I am Laura, the mom of Tyler, who has a ROBPI. I've been a member of this site since 1998 and owe a great deal to the wonderful people in the UBPN community who have helped us along the way get what we needed to get done for Tyler. Tyler is now 14 years old and in the 9th grade. He's a super bright kid and loves his video games. Tyler had the mod quad surgery with Dr. Shenaq shortly before he passed. That was his first and only surgery. Now that he is older he is requesting additional surgery. He'd like to be able to supinate. Our goal is for Summer 2013.

Krista:

Hollandale is on the Louisiana/Mississippi border northwest of Baton Rouge. It's really far inland. They probably got some damage, but not anything like New Orleans. I live in Mobile, Alabama, and HOllandale is about 6 hours away from me -- New Orleans is only 1 1/2 hours from me (if that gives you any indication where they are at). They probably have damaged phone lines, which is why you can't get a hold of them, but I'm sure that they are just too far inland to have received any major damage.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

We have heard from my son's friend. Her house is okay, they live in Jackson Mississippi, they had no power though and the phone lines had just started working on Friday and she said that it was hard to get a line out, it was easier for them to get rather than make calls.
