I can't remember when I last rode a horse but I'm game to take a ride at camp (if Kath rides one that is).

Wow! Thank you, Sharon and Tess and UBPN! Nicole just finished her first 10-week semester of Ther. H/B Riding last week and she'll start her next semester in a month. She really enjoys it. She has a good instructor who does a lot of arm exercises. We were given the opportunity to submit goals that we'd like our child to work on while riding (or we coudld also submit goals from a PT or OT). Well, I don't know if anyone else submitted goals besides me (there are 5 children in Nicole's age group and 4 more from the older group -- all from our town), so it seems like Nicole's goals are getting worked on the most.

BTW, Nancy, I noticed that you used the terms "therapeutic riding" and "hippotherapy" interchangeably and I wanted to point out to you that they're not the same thing. Nicole's program is therapeutic riding (not hippotherapy). She has a therapeutic riding instructor who stands in the middle and basically directs the whole thing (again, there are 5 kids in Nicole's group riding at one time); then, there are 2 sidewalkers and one taking the lead. There is no PT working with Nicole or even present at the session.

Do you know what this will be? It would be good to findout so that you have the proper terminology in the camp materials. I'm not trying to be particular, but thought that you might not be aware of the difference.

You are right Tina, I'm not aware of the difference.
Since horses are a really really bad allergy from me, I stay far away from them.

I'll find out from the riding instructor and let you all know.

Nancy, did you know that horses get allergies too?! There's a horse where Nicole rides that has allergies. I just thought it was the funniest thing when I heard it b/c I never would've thought of a horse having allergies.

BTW, here's some info. regarding the difference b/w therapeutic riding and hippotherapy from Francine's site (which was copied as a post on UBPN):
