Can you tell me the name of the person who made the splint for your child's Triangle Tilt surgery? Does the same orthotist make them all for Dr. Nath or are all of the orthotists at Hermann able to make them? Thank you for your help.

A "gunslinger" splint is a standard splint. Any OT with good splint training should be able to make it. Same with orthotists. The OT that does most of Dr. Nath's work at Hermann is Andrea M. but she is away on vacation for a month so either the orthotist he has used in the past is doing the splints OR another OT at Hermann is doing them. But Andrea has been away for about 3 weeks now, and Dr. Nath does a lot of surgeries, so whoever it is, if they were new at it, they are experienced now.

Our son has had the procedure, with great results so far. I posted a before and after picture at http://batchler.home.comcast.net/sidebyside.jpg

We have more recent before pictures, where his arm actually had gotten worse than shown in the picture.

Please send us an email if we can answer any questions related to the procedure or recovery.

WOW! those pictures are great!
What was the blue splint for, my son had the triangular tilt and looks great as well, if I could figure out how to attach a picture I would. The winging in his scapula also isnt as pronounced as before!
Good luck with everyone's procedures. Hope all are doing well.

Was anyone's child who had this surgery able to put their hand on their hip (if they weren't able to do it before)? My child is not able to do that or touch chest/waist but can put hand behind head.

Julie,
once I read your posting, I tested my son James who had the triangular tilt on March 3rd. He was able to touch his hand on his chest doing the "pledge of allegiance" and he was able to put his hand on his waist, although it wasnt perfect. I dont recall if he knew how to do this before but I do know that he played "peek a boo" with me a few weeks ago and I almost cried that he was able to do it so perfectly.

How long ago did your child have surgery?
My son's PT said that she is working with another child who had his triangular tilt done by a dr in France about 8 weeks before my son, and that he started to decompensate for awhile but then after they started to change his PT routine, they saw improvements. I hope that can help you out.

Good luck.
