Re: New TBPI
I haven't seen this on the medical resources board, and I haven't heard anyone mention this place. But...I was in the Dr.'s office recently reading an article about pain in children and they quoted Dr's from a pain clinic at UC Davis. The poster who mentioned pain management made me think of it. It might be worth a call...I think TBPI and OBPI's are much different in this regard. My child is an OBPI and while I know she has had pain...I think it's very different from the kind of pain that TBPI's suddenly experience.

Hi Lourdes,
Just wanted to let you know I'll be writing you via email by EOD. Sorry for the delay - I know how eager you are to get info & start making decisions. It's GREAT that you're considering Mayo! And yes, they've worked with patients of all ages:
Check your email later.
Take care,
Ellen

Re: New TBPI
I have a 13 year old son who was injured on an ATV...total plexus avulsion. I know how devastated you must be, but there is hope and there are wonderful doctors who can help you.
We live in Florida but went to Baltimore to have surgery with the group at Johns Hopkins. They are tremendous. The neuro surgeon is Dr. Belzberg and he is the nicest person I have ever met. He does kids and adults and is also an expert in pain after nerve injury. They have an orthopedic surgeon, a pediatric neurologist and a new pediatric plastic surgeon who work as team with Belzberg and together are without question the best plexus group in the States. My son is doing great!!
I met many other families there, kids and adults who had had gracilis transfers, nerve repairs, you name it. We talked about starting a web site to support the work they do but Dr Belzberg asked us not to, he feels it is like advertising and not professional.
Keep up your spirits. We are all here for you!

Re: New TBPI
Just to let you know, we are also a family that are strong supporters of the Johns Hopkins group. Our son has a birth injury and is seeing Dr. Belzberg and Redett and we think they are great. Rather than just one plexus person, they are a team with the different doctors providing specific expert ability. I can't recommend them enough,
and I also agree, Dr. Belzberg is the sweetest nicest physician I have ever met

Re: New TBPI
We have our daughter seeing Dr. Belzberg in Baltimore. His group has been terrific and my daughter is doing well.
The only groups that we heard about who are doing muscle transfer as well as nerve repair are the Johns Hopkins and Mayo group.
I liked the idea that both these centers make us of multiple doctors each with their own expert area. I am not sure who is in charge at the Mayo but Dr. Belzburg is the person to see at Hopkins. He always makes sure that we see anyone else as needed and everyone has been so nice.
Good luck
