"In your face" means that she does not sugar coat things. She's not one to find ten ways of saying something sweet and diplomatic to you just to make you feel better. If you say that you believe in something, she'll stop you dead in your tracks and look you right in the eye and say "WHY" and she'll delve into why you think your decision is correct. It's not that she pushes her way onto you but it's that she wants to make sure that you are completely educated (about the decision) and making a completely informed decision.
She'll give you all the pros and cons of things. Some people find that approach hard. I don't. Her approach is about being honest and not sugar coating the facts. She also lets you know that there is no magic pill to cure anything. If you want something you have to work on it.
How much do you want this? Are you willing to work to get there? How much work? So how much do you really want it?
get it? you'll understand when you see her.
She's GREAT! She's an incredible motivator for parents of kids with these kinds of issues.

She doesn't cut you down or treat you disrespectfully- she doesn't try to make people mad - she tells the plain truth the way she sees it because people need to be helped and to be helped people need to deal with the truth even if it challenges our preconcieved ideas, if she thinks there is a different way of seeing something or doing something that you need to think about she will tell you - isn't that what we want - or do we want people to tell us everything we're doing is hunky dory and then we never progress.
She is very smart and very perceptive and very experienced and that alone can intimidate people -- I know I always feel a little exposed and a little too aware of my own weaknesses when I am around people that are smarter than I am but what I learn and gain makes the discomfort so worth the growth.Itis this very strong personality that has made her able to push ahead and break new ground in rehabilitation. If you get to know her you will see her heart is pure gold - it's kind of like she thinks outloud which is good you don't have to guess what she is thinking - she will tell you - I like people like that because then if you see it different you can analyze the merits of both perspectives and decide which makes the most sense. She questions the status quo , she breaks new ground, she always looks for better ways, and usually finds them -she gives you hope, she helps you raise the bar , then tells you how to get there- she isn't perfect or always right, and neither are any of us, but if we have honest, smart people in our lives who aren't afraid to speak their ideas and help you analyze your own ideas then we have something to build on. You certainly have lots you can gain from hearing her presentation and she doesn't drag anyone out of the crowd-so if you are senitive and don't feel comfortable with her , then just don't put yourself out there for discussion - but really she is not scary, just blunt and honest - and if you disagree with her that is fine too - I have disagreed with a couple of her ideas or comments, but for the most part she makes good sense and has given great changes to our son's recovery that are absolutely priceless. You could always tell her you are very sensitive before you ask your question - she admires honesty- .

Thanks for clarifying! I wanted to make she sure doesn't "talk down" to parents. That is one thing I do NOT tolerate. Especially since everything I know about these injuries is from my own research, no thanks to any of the doctors we have seen so far, which is pretty sad in my opinion!
I look forward to her seminar!
